6 day weeks & weekly rest period

Couple of questions in regards to working 6 days

I’m aware everything thing works In 24 hr periods rather than days

Does weekly rest work in the same way as your daily rest as In once you go over a 13 hour spread your automaticly into a reduced daily rest, is that the same as weekly rest if you’ve worked 6 days? Or can you still get a 45 after working 6 days  If I start at 06.30 Monday do I need my rest completed by 06.30 the following Monday or can it go over?

Thanks

No it’s not the same, if you start work at 06:30 on Monday you must start a new weekly rest period no later than 06:30 the following Sunday, that’s six 24 hour periods (144 hours), it does not have to be completed within any time frame.

Bear in mind that you do have to have a weekly rest period for each fixed week (00:00 Monday to 24:00 Sunday), but a weekly rest period that crosses two weeks (Sunday night) can count for either week but not both.

  • A daily rest period must be completed within the period of 24 hours from the end of the previous daily rest period.
  • A weekly rest period must start no later than six 24 hour periods (144 hours) from the end of the pervious weekly rest period.

You can work 6 x 24 hour periods then get a full 45, then repeat 6 x 24.
Your weekly rest can begin at the point your shift finishes on the 6th 24 hour period

As an occasional pattern that’s perfectly fine, but keep an eye on your 90 hours fortnightly limit and your 60 WTD weekly maximum.
Also, your TM should monitor your WTD weekly average over your Reference Period if you’re racking up your hours regularly doing 6 x 24.

Ah great informative answers again thanks for that, I passed my test a couple of years ago & my current job Ive only needed to know the basics really but recently have started taking on a lot more work & starting too learn the nitty gritty stuff about drivers hours etc.

I bought a few books & stuff they tell you the basics but don’t really go that deep into things so just learning as I go along.

I thought I was in a bit of bother as I was taking a full weekly rest period after 6 days & started to overthink things, good to know I’m all legal on that side of things.

Thanks again

Do breaks & POA throughout my shift count towards the 60 hour weekly maximum or is it just Driving & other work? Thanks

No: Breaks, rests and POA don’t count, just OW and driving.

The six days can be handy if you aren’t really getting enough hours per day, but if you are putting in long days you don’t really need it.
