Thanks, but it took me rather a long time to find it myself !, about ten years, lhd, on air, with esteppe roof, with history, i think it may possibly be the last astran scania left, that actually done the job and isnt a copy., and she still going down. !I am fairly sure its run in by now.

A few more of the STS 143

Still good to see jim, the wagon was bought second hand & was originaly from Scotland hence the GSL No & its name.

Your 143 was owned and occasionally operated by Mark Compton of poole long before it ever went to the middle east in Astran colours so it could be said that it’s original colour was indeed white. If you look at the toprun site there is a set of photos of your truck on a run to the ME and in a couple of pics it still white with the compton name on it.

We used to borrow a step frame from Mark occasionally and I always used to go in the shed and have a good nose around the 143 usually getting him to fire it up. I Don’t know if Mark had it from new but it was definately him who had the roof and tag axle conversion done. At the time it used to have centurion badges on but I don’t know if it was a genuine one.

Every six months or so Mark used to put his entire fleet up for sale in the commercial motor and the 143 was always £25k which I think was over the top at the time for what was by then an out of date truck.

I spoke to Chris Hooper in truckworld around 10 years ago and he told me that his 143 also came from Mark Compton and was in fact an ex Davies International Truck which made sense because Mark used to buy a few ex Davies Scanias and Volvos. At the time Chris told me a colleague of his had bought the Centurion but I never really thought about it doing middle east work until I saw it a few years later in Astran colours pulling a skelly on the M25.

Unfortunately I never took any photos of any of these trucks at the time which I now regret because they would have been of interest to many on this site.

thanks for te history, it has ten previuos owners on the log book, and i am ciruous to put all the owners with the dates they had it together.

I’m not sure if the service is still available but it used to be possible to get copies of the old v5s from the DVLA.

I did it for an RS2000 I owned back in the early 90’s and it was just a case of writing in IIRC.

Check out a few classic car/bike/truck sites and I’m sure somebody will know if the service is still available and how to go about it.

Just for info I know Mark Compton had the truck as late as middle 2000 and I think he had it for at least 5 years.

Cheers
