40 mph limit

HI all, just a quick question, i was following an artic today down the m23 and it had warning on its arse saying “restricted to 40mph by law”, which leads to my question, why? its was a box trailer no other warnings about hazardous cargo ect

I imagine it was telling you about S/C speed limit.

Just a thought

he was restricted to 40mph, sorry my mistake i put limited, i was stuck behind him for a bit and he was doing 40mph , when i overtook he was draped over the wheel looking bored out of his box

Even though the sign said ‘restricted’, I am sure that the person who designed the sign should have said ‘limited’, and that it was trying to tell car drivers that wagons have a speed limit of 40 mph on Single Carriageway roads.

Not a lot of car drivers know that do they?

It’s to be hoped the poor sod was salaried or paid by the hour.

Doesn’t matter to me if I’m paid by the hour or the shift, I’ll still stick to speed limits. If that were me and I was pulled over by the Police then that could be one of the excuses but technically, when I’m on an A road and doing 40, if there is a suitable place to stop to let all those behind me pass I will, or I’ll tuck it in a little to let them pass.

It’s easier to drive on the speed limit with cruise control or speed-limit control

Do you have a problem at doing 40mph on a single carriageway road? I’ve already had speeding points and my licence has come several times to a knats hair from a ban so I’m quite happy to stick to the speed limit thank you very much

I know that the double trailers of the showmans lot are limited to 40mph, could it have been part of a showmans set-up?
