Gawd I hope the new forum has a sarcastic emoji.
Iām trying to picture what would be an appropriate image to represent sarcasm, but Iām drawing a blank. In the meantime, āl33Tā type folk use or even just /s to denote sarcasm.
o/p like you, I would probably be a bit too honest. Could the absence have been chalked up as ātransport issuesā rather than being ill?
I would say how far you live away, your reliability of transport etc isnāt a consideration to businesses that are there to make a profit. When people apply to work at a location, they are declaring their ability to get to work there.
If you arenāt ill or are unwilling to lie, make every effort to get in, even if you are late and have to pay for a taxi.
Sickness T&Cs at many places - gets you into trouble IF you threw the occasional āsickkieā for minor purposes - and then find yourself having to take months off later for a serious sickness, such as accident on duty, or life-threatening illnessā¦
Perhaps it is time to reform the whole system, as is the case with so many work or āwokeplaceā institutionalized rules that still have the structure of 70ās folklore about themā¦
Iāve long since had enough of the petty backbiting that goes on, where Beloved-of-the-Union Mr A gets to take as many sickies as he likes to watch the cup final, but Fred Bloggs B gets a reasons-to-urge after heās diagnosed with cancer less than a year after taking several weeks off for a torn ligamentā¦
Then thereās āManagement Discretionā Sick Pay where manager gets sent home āsickā monday morning, having turned up half-cut from the night before, but anyone else in the ranks throwing a sickie for any reason whatsoever - simply gets docked a days payā¦ Makes one wonder why bother with full time at all eh?
What āsafety netsā DOES one get anymore these days?
