3,2,1 and come off the motorway!

On motorways and the A roads that have them the 3,2,1 markerboards are my guide for when I indicate to show I am coming off at a junction. As I get level with the 3 marker board, I indicate and keep it going till the vehicle is out of lane 1. Why do people leave it till they are pulling off to indicate? Surely you would like to vehicle behind to know what you are doing, or is it just too hard to lift the stalk up that early?

What point do you do yours?

Is there any legal requirement or just an instructors or highway codes recommended distance?

I used to indicate at the 100 yard marker till i was doing my class 1 training and the instructor said that would be too late, so now i indicate at the 200 yard marker

As for being too hard to move the stalk…what about all the numpty’s who don’t bother indicating at all :imp:

I got marked down on an assessment because i indicate at 3 , when i questioned trainer he had failed to notice the marker signs!
As for every other idiot on road indicators have become a thing of the past

Not as bad as most cars you are following on a single carriage way who brake and come to a near stop then signal as they are turning… Un real.
I signal on the third market also.

To exit a motorway or A road I head of the the left and on all the vehicles I have driven the indicator stalk is pushed downwards, upwards to turn right. Picky I know but have nowt better to do yet. Bad indication just goes along with the rest of the bad standards you see everyday.

It depends on what is behind you and how close. If nobody is close enough to be affected I don’t signal; if it will help someone behind me plan their moves I will signal before the markers. I don’t think you can make a rule about it, every time is different.

My Cat C instructor taught me to indicate at 300yd marker and have done so ever since. Previous to this I would do it about 150-200 yds.

Also, I virtually never make an attempt to overtake anything once I am approaching the one mile to exit sign.

It always was and is the 2nd board! HTH

AKA optional extras! :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

Perhaps there is a fear that by indicating between III and II (the obvious thing to do) you’ll alert the plonker in the middle lane that he’s only got seconds left to carve you up, because the junction is a bit sharper than usual… Eg. J13 Northbound on the M1… :unamused:

When they see you NOT indicating by the II marker, they’ll brake in the middle lane, and fall in behind, thinking they’ll not be able to cut across the front of you, as you’ve given no indication that you are about to decelerate! The Concealed Hand approach to Indicating? :open_mouth:

What gets on my ■■■■ is when you’re about to enter a roundaout, and have to pull up sharp because the arse in front of you goes right around without indicating, and then expects to cut across the front of you as well, “because he was on the roundabout first”! :imp: :imp: :imp: He wanted the 9pm exit, but approached the roundabout on your right, then missed 9pm because he was too deep in the middle to get out through the traffic just in front of you, whilst you’re attempting to go straight on in the middle lane!
(Normal drivers would have been to the left of you approaching the roundabout, thus making this move unecessary!)

There seems to be no let-up in motorists who have a “Gotta get past this lorry on the wrong side or I’ll surely die!” mentality!

some numpties seem to think the 3,2,1 marker boards are to tell them which lane they should be in as they exit the motorway. lane 3 at the 3 marker… lane 2 at the 2 marker etc…
and indicators■■? well, I know where I’m going… !!!

lol

It’s generally BMW drivers that offend the most frequently. I think you need to be missing certain brain cells and have a very small ■■■■■ to own a BMW.

My instructor told me I only need to start indicating at the 100 marker, this was in 1980. I usually start at the 200 mark now, as sais before it gives the loons a bit more time to cut you up.

300 yd Maker for me, gives everyone round warning.

200 yard marker for me.
it’s the way we were shown, and it stuck.
and if Brussels try to make us indicate in metres, then they can go [zb] themselves.

mirrors at 300 indicate at 200,thats what i was taught an thats wot ive done since

When doing my class 2 I was told to begin indicating “somewhere between the 3 and 2 hundred yard markers”. I have continued to do so. The only exceptions would be if I have been confused or lost and needed to come off quick - I am, unlike most here, only human afterall. :stuck_out_tongue: (not to mention a sub-human rigid driver)

The other numpties out there are the ones that come belting it in lane 2/3, realise they want to come off a few cm from your front bumper(busy liaising with miss ■■■■■■■■■ jam anchors on & drop to 40, don’t bother indicating then speed off to the end of the slip rd to a complete stop then give you the look as you carry on with your heart beating in your dry mouth, these tend to have German motors that they clearly don’t know how to drive… Exits warning us usually at least a mile off isn’t it!?
