Any ideas where i can find a 24v radio to fit my eurocargo? The reception is crap on the current head unit all i get is bbc cymru!
Fit a dropper then use a 12v radio, chances are its a 12v system anyway, AFAIK only Mercs and the latest DAFs use 24V radios

Well you live & learn, having been involved with auto electric years back, never knew there was such a thing as a 24v radio.
However, the above description sounds very specifically like an aerial problem.
As others have said, changing the unit won’t fix the aerial, usually water damage in the wiring etc.
Most truck stereo’s are 12v as also stated, even the ones with the 24v sticker, just bang a multi-meter on and check

No 24 Volt on the Marked.Don’t think anyone came up with that.
But the Areal.Unscrew it,remove bit of Paint with Screwdriver and Fix it again. Its usually just bad Minus,in most Case.

This advice comes from beyond the grave as Steve (biggusdickus) posted it in 2008

I doubt any 24v equipment will be very cheap though, as it is a bit specialist, things like heavy plant and excavators have 24v too
thats fine that someone builds anything for Lorry.Philips and the other big may not do it.
the unit in my truck is a blaupunkt cd24v (model number) i took the unit out and it appears the ariel wasnt properly connected so hopefully that was the problem
blaupunkt is a excellent model.but that they do 24 volt i didnt know. just woundering since when they are doin it

I didn’t know either. Here ya go:
also while i was fishing around behing the head unit i found a wire that looked similar to an ariel wire that was connected to nothing but it had a round screw type connection on it and went off to the passenger side of the cab. Any ideas what that is??
Got a used 24v Mercedes/blaupunkt radio lying in the garage, send me a PM when you want it for the cost of the Post
Geoff
twingos ahem sorry renault premiums have 24v stereos but they are not marked as such. i would try a tester on it 1st. but before spending your hard earned dosh iwould check the aerial. if all seems well get your new stereo and a dropper 10 or 15 amp then you would have enough to run a cb as well i would think the other lead with the screw end will be for a mobile phone aerial.it’ll be on the roof somewhere about 2 inches high. hope this helps nothing worse than no tunes

any ideas on wiring in a cb?
Negative (probably black) to a suitable earth point. (assuming your truck isn’t a, or an ex petrol tank carrier).
Positive (probably red) fed from a 12v supply through an inline fuse holder.
The feed to this should come from a feed that is only live when the ignition key is turned at least as far as the “auxillaries” position. This is so that you can’t leave it on accidentally all night/weekend.
You’ll need to check to see if your 12v outlet socket(s) are permanently live, or if the key needs to be turned.
If it does, you could pick a feed up off the back of one of those.

How big is it? It could be an aerial wire for a cb or phone as suggested.
