24 hours of, 45 hours off

i just need to clear something up.
at 9 am last tuesday, i took a 24 hour rest, then on wednesday i drove for 2 hours, worked for about 3, then i was told the load wasn’t going to be ready until thursday. So i took another 24 off.

I know if you take a 24 in week 1, then you will have to take a 45 in week 2, and make up the shortfall by the end of the third week.
the thing is, i’ve taken two 24 hour rests in one week, Can i do the same next week, or do i still need to take a 45 hour rest.

Still need a 45. You can take another 24 during next week if you need/want to but you will have to start a full weekly rest before midnight next Sunday.

Only one of those 24’s from this week will need compensation and that will have to be made before the end of week ending 15th May, the end of the third week following the reduction.

wouldn’t the second 24 have already compensated the first?

wouldn’t the second 24 have already compensated the first?

No because it wasn’t attached to anything

wouldn’t the second 24 have already compensated the first?

No, unless it was actually 30 hours and you are just calling it a ‘24’. The compensation needs to be attached to another rest period of at least 9 hours.

right ok, i’ve got that. i thought it would have been 24+21. each time i read the regs, i get a different answer from myself, so i thought i best check on here, as i can’t trust myself.
so, if i’d have taken a 24, then a 30. would i still have to take a 45 the following week? or is it a case of, i’ve just cleared up the make the hours up by the end of the third week thing?

You would still need a minimum of 45 hours the following week. Any two week period must have at least one full rest period of at least 45 continuous hours and one reduced rest period. Compensating quickly for a reduced period doesn’t change that. You could have another 24 hours on say Wednesday of this week and you would still need to start a full rest period before midnight next Sunday.
