Hi everyone.
Looking fir help to sort out airbag light that comes and goes on my 2005 volvo fm9.
I took it to a truck mechanic who used delphi software and says there was a problem in the system. (Of course there is, thats why the light is on!) But offered little help in sorting it.
Where should i start? And does anyone know the resistance that should be present at the connector to seatbelts or steering wheel airbag?
Thanks in advamce for any help.
(Also is it an mot failure to have an airbag light on in a truck as the mechanic sais it wasnt?)
Not an MOT item, as yet, for trucks as installation is not widespread AFAIK.
My suspicion would be the steering wheel airbag connector wiring is most likely where the fault is, rather than the seatbelt but could be either, dealer level software would probably narrow it down exactly
Behind the steering wheel there will be a squab that should allow the wheel to turn without twisting the wiring this may have failed or become unseated or the wiring has just pulled a bit loose.
Should be fairly straightforward to remove the airbag and look behind at the connector wiring is usually yellow on a lot of vehicles. Be careful though, make sure you disconnect the battery first and leave it a while. Also don’t be tempted to measure the resistance with a multimeter it may trigger the airbag.
My guess…
Dodgy connection to the seat belt pre-tensioner beneath the driver’s seat. When the ignition has been turned off for at least an hour, pull the connector plugs beneath the drivers seat apart, spray with contact cleaner then re-assemble.
