Harry is quite right in what he say’s here.
The Canadian’s MIGHT not have a problem with this but the Americans will most likely be very interested in your conviction’s,As i am not an immigration lawyer do not take what i say as gospel,See what H&R have to say,Having said that Canada might not mind about certain offence’s the USA do not like any arrest’s on anybody entering their country,If this is so you will be of no use at all to any Canadian company that require’s a driver to cross the US border,Then you would have to look for a job that is Canada only work,There are driving job’s in the PNP that are Canada only but that will cut your choice down considerably.
Your course of action should be to contact both embassy’s with your dilemma and find out before you even think of going over there to work.Pardon’s are given in some case’s but you have to go to an embassy to get these and it aint done overnight from what i have heard.
Conviction’s stay with you all your life in North America there are many people that cannot go north of the border and many that cannot go south of the border,If a person has been arrested in the UK or any other country for that matter the American’s will know about it,Their computer is so good they even know the last time you had a crap.
If you have been to the USA on holiday and got an I 94 then you should be ok.
The US INS are very strict about honesty, as driving in Canada usually involves driving into the USA too, it’s best to check. I have to admit that in a lot of cases they do actually apreciate it if you are honest and admit to ant minor conviction and permit your entry, it’s when you lie and they find out you will be in trouble. You are not exactly a drug runner or terrorist so comming clean about your past might stand you in good stead.
Go to the USA and Canadian visa requirements websites and you can see wether you will be eligible without getting visas and rehabilitation fairly quickly.
If this is a no you may be able to apply for a USA b1/b2 visa which is fairly straightforward.
If you need rehabilitation to enter Canada it is fairly involved and takes a while think best part of a year.
Each case is different but do this before you start looking for jobs as they can and will refuse entry if things don’t add up.
You will be asked for the documentation from the embassy in London before you get through passport control. But it. Is doable

I would get a criminality search done by ACPO at Farnham, it will only take a few days, if it comes back saying “No Trace” Your good to go, If it says “No Live Trace” then it means You’ve had a conviction/caution whatever, You need the crime code & then google it & check it out, some things You get a caution for in The UK The Yanks will scream about & vice versa, both the Yanks & Canadians are hot on custodial sentences & they ask “have you ever been arrested” as a matter of course every time You cross/enter.
I would’nt let it put You off trying thats for sure I know Guys that have come here with criminal records & are in & out of Canada weekly, if the Yanks say no & the Canooks say yes you can still creep about up here untill your hearts content & You’ll enjoy the 6 month long winters…
