Drivers taking weekend break’s was never a problem, untill your countrymen decided to turn industrial estates, services areas, and sometimes town centres, into little shanty towns.

Why not tackle the problem it’s self, …
ie. Crap haulage rates, and unscrupulous hauliers in competition for those rates, and them only being able to work for them at the expense of their drivers earning ■■■■ poor wages to compensate…and forcing/encouraging/asking/implying to run bent into the bargain. Now that DOES make sense.
Yeah - let’s nationalise road transport. Oh! They tried that once and it was a disaster.
How tf did you interpret that as me calling for nationalisation.

Rows of trucks, with washing hanging of lines, makeshift ‘kitchens’ on fuel tanks, spilling over on pavements, with occupants who, let’s be generous, don’t look to fresh, parked for weekends, but more often days on end, give the impression to the local population of Gypsy camps or shanty towns. You have seen the pictures. And it’s not because they are taking a 24hr weekend break. It’s because they are waiting for work. I don’t perse blame the guys, they are trying to make a living, but fact is, when Dutch, Danish, German , British etc etc drivers used to overnight (and still do) , we don’t turn the place into a camp. Maybe the occasional impromptu BBQ, but not some ‘under the bridge’s hobo’ encampment.
Oh ND, your description takes me back to the middle east days, thats exactly what we used to do, only it was in pub car parks ( restaurants actually ) with truck parking, where they welcomed any customers, and where some of the brits did washing in a bucket, and indeed hung it on the grill…have you ever washed or dried tea towels, a shower towel, underwear…well we did , and so do these poor muckers who are doing what we all do…trying to earn a crust…and as Andreis said…Whats the point of trucks parking and the drivers going to a hotel…the trucks are still parked, a lot cheaper than a fine 3000 euros i`ve heard…and doesnt free up anymore space does it, but like i said many times, we should have been organised/unionised and show these idiots who really does run the asylum.

1.Sorry but why Uk higway or city council with private company partnership not build new services or lay by??How many new lay by was builded in last 5 years■■?
2.Parked in idustrial estates. If there no any restriction that that problem???Drivers not broken any rulles. If there restriction that why Uk police not give penalty???May be Uk police work very poor.
3.Cooking near truck.Show me any link or rulles who not legaly cooking in paverment or near truck.Cooking in the street more safety that at home.because gas explousion more possible in closed area.
4.If any country want change that first must start from build much more simply parking lay by with tualet and cold water.
5.Rubbish.This is as well not just Uk problem. But in in Uk people leave rubbish everythere.Around motorway more rubbish that green grass. In town people leave rubbish as well everywhere. But city council cleaner work very very poor.near my house somebody leave old sofa, furniture. All this was about 2-3 month ,start smelling and not one City council inspector come and nobody clean this. This situation was not in some small street but in busy area.
6.Weekend rest by rulles -free dispose of time.Driver must dicide he want sleep in truck or in caravan or in hotel. If somebody want make rulles about rest outside cab that they broken this rulles.because it si ready not free dispose of time if drivers must just rest in hotel or camp.
I’m not talking about the UK. The UK does not enforce the ‘no sleepy in truck during reduced weekly rest’ rule. France , Belgium, Germany and possibly Holland soon, do so because they are sick of East Euro drivers spending weeks in virtual shanty towns in West Europe. They either run from Eastern Euro, from a subsidiary ‘company’, or are bussed and flown in

In France and Belgium not legally now but thousand drivers carry on sleep in cab and nobody check.May be was fined 0.0001 percent from all drivers. In last 6 month i was taked in cab 45 hours rest in France 3-5 time and nobody was checked me.Here same situation like we have speed linit 70 miles,France more but thousand drivers overspeedind and police not carry about this so much.May be 50 percent from all rulles for trucker, car drivers broken by drivers and nobody want fined maximum driver.

(Deep sigh)
Switch on your irony detector comrade.
WE are all in the same job…some work distance…some work local…but it seems that you are wanting to ban the freedom of goods from EE countries, because driver will have to rest at some point, maybe you only want UK companies to carry the goods…then we are all in the same situation, as a load from Bulgaria cannot get to the uk without stopping for at least a 12 hr rest over 4/5 days ( providing he has had a 45 before departing ) he wont need another one whilst in the uk, only a 24…and then we have the problem of delivery times…unless we flood the market with brit trucks doing all the work…then we will have the same problems of waiting for a back load, therefore stuffing up all the truck stops and services across europe, the same reasons you want to stop the EE from doing.
When we were doing the long haul stuff from the uk, we also had to park up for our weekly rests…we also had to hang around at borders, and again di washing and hung it out to dry…we also cooked and ate from our trailer boxes, many didnt have them, so used the cat walk, the same as the EE today…BUt, we didnt have a mobile phone, we only had telex, we didnt have countries telling us You cant rest in the cab, you must use a hotel
we had fuel controls…the same law was in the uk, but not enforced…germany and Holland shared the same building for customs…so the germans would hand over our fuel fine deposits, to the dutch, without leaving their seats, and we claimed it back in the port from the ferry companies, you see everyone worked together back then, we all became one family, WHY …because we were all doing the same job, and the future looks the same my friend, its called TRADE…where goods are moved from one country to the next, some choose to fly it in, others want the cheaper option and use road transport, and regardless of what you read…its here to stay, brexit or no brexit.
Truckboy this has nothing to do with Brexit, or the U.K.s attitude towards Europe, it has been pushed originally by the French and Belgiums and lately the Germans.
And it hasn’t happened because of moving goods from Eastern Europe to Western Europe, it’s happened because companies, many of them Western European, have been basically basing East European drivers for weeks or months at a time in Western Europe, taking full advantage of the cabotage regulations and Employing their drivers on East European terms and conditions. Therefore undercutting the rates for haulage companies based in those countries, who have to pay their employees the agreed national rates of pay.
