It amazes me when I see drivers get irate about this.
How many British drivers now do two weeks or more away from home.
It’s been done to at least make a start on combating the fact Eastern European hauliers send trucks roaming round Western Europe for months on end working for lower rates than any local firm could.
I done six weeks away from home once and booked in to a hotel more than once as the thought of spending that long in a poxy lorry drove me round the twist

…Apparently they also learnt how to time travel, :open_mouth: which surely is a far more interesting post and has far more consequences for the haulage and distribution industry.

I think Comrade Corbyn has also got one of these machines, Muckles, as he appears to want to take us all back to the 1970`S

The torys want to take us working class types back to the 30s

I agree Kev, but to be fair, all the parties seem to want to take us back in time, just to different extremes.

It’s not with me worrying to much. My local MP is Tory she got a 17000 majority last time and ukip were second.
So if anything she will have a majority even larger this time.
I’m hoping I’ve got a monster raving looney or some other odd ball I can vote for

I don’t envy your choice. Back to the 70’s with comrade Corbyn, or back to the 50s with St. Theresa

Rob, if my (earlier… :sunglasses: ) double bait didn’t get him going, he must be really busy.

No it doesn’t ! :bulb:

Why target a symptom of the problem ?
ie. drivers taking time off for rest in their cabs.

Why not tackle the problem it’s self, …
ie. Crap haulage rates, and unscrupulous hauliers in competition for those rates, and them only being able to work for them at the expense of their drivers earning ■■■■ poor wages to compensate…and forcing/encouraging/asking/implying to run bent into the bargain.

Now that DOES make sense. :bulb:

That would undermine the principles of the single market.
Wouldn’t of been a massive problem with the pre 2000 EU but opening the floodgates to the old eastern bloc nations threw a massive spanner in the works.

Not many uk drivers spend more than a week abroad, those that do, myself included at times, will take a 45 prior to heading home, but out of germany/austria…so that if we have to stop again en route to the uk, we will only need a 24, which is legal, and not enforced by a fine, this just needs a bit of thought/planning, the same for the outbound journey ( if the boss dont like it, he can pay for a hotel ) as most services have them attached…Seeing as no one represents the haulage industry regarding drivers, we have to get on and lump it, and the countries who charge extortionate sums onto drivers and their bosses, will not back down, as theyre europeans themselves, and we`re leaving , and under punishment, but hope is in sight…maybe the uk can enforce a ban on drivers taking a 24 rest in the cab, to get back at them, see who takes notice then, when the price of the job goes up…well its just a thought.

Yeah - let’s nationalise road transport. Oh! They tried that once and it was a disaster.
