My main difficulty since the beginning is judging the space to my sides (mainly on on my left but the right isn’t a piece of cake either) because of the increased width. From what I’ve been told it’s something that just comes with time (not encouraging when you’re only training for 3/4 days!).
Since the test is on Thursday is there a chance it’s going to “click” by then? Squeezing past parked cars, driving down narrow roads - including long stretches of narrow road with a great big wall on the left, and the instructor yelling at me to stay on the middle line (but not over it!) and increase my speed as a bus is careening towards me on the right hand lane - is stressing me out of my mind.
Hi mate
The width of the wagon will get easier to judge as you practice , as for the instructor shouting at you while your driving that doesn’t sound too good ! It does get easier to judge the distances though !
Good luck with the training and make sure you let us all know how you get on

Hi, try not stress, if it is any consolation to you, I was the exact same. The problem with a certain amount of days training with your test at the end of it, is it is no reflection of whether you have reached Passable Test Standard or not. There again, instructors have to see if you fail what part of the driving to train your further.
I had 4 & 1/2 days (two man training) and had no confidence and thought I was going to fail which I did with 3 Serious and 4 Minors.
On my retest, I failed again, 1 Serious (stupid error) and 6 minors (which were silly things as I knew I had failed already) but looking back I gained so much confidence from this, that I was very confident on passing the 3rd time which I did pass with 1 Minor.
There will come a time when it will click into place. On my retests, I had a different instructor (same company) for the morning training before the tests and I picked up additional help to go with the initial training I had.
The advice I would give is try to not put any pressure on yourself to get it to click into place to pass.
I wish you well.
More time practicing correct and effective use of mirrors is the solution to your issues. Until you get the idea of using the mirrors to get your position, it will be guesswork. And that’s not good! If you were mine, there’s a whole series of exercises I’d run with you to make sure you’d got it sorted. Hopefully your instructor will stop shouting and maybe has the experience and knowledge to teach the required skills.

Yes it does get easier with practice and as mentioned mirrors are the key for minor adjustments.
Best thing is don’t rush it as hitting something causes a lot of paperwork. Ok the bus is coming towards you, but in theory they’ve passed their test so should be able to judge the space.
Instructor shouting sounds bad. Suspect you’ve found one of the people who’s not setup for driver training or the company starts with a J (know of one with a bit of a reputation).
Good luck and just take your time.
I wonder if OP has had the test yet. I’m guessing it would have been Thursday or Friday but I could be wrong of course.
Would be nice to hear there was a pass.
