Captain Caveman 76:
As a former educator myself I couldn’t agree more. Not everyone is academically minded and trying to shoehorn them into an education system that only teaches one way will lead to a lot of failures.
I was there in the early days of embedding key skills into vocational workshops and it always saddened me how many people had been failed by our education system.
I couldn’t be more on the same page Cavey, though without your background. It saddens me to see how many university educated ( though my gut feeling is that it’s those with the less, shall we say, rigorous degrees), that have no appreciation for those whose skills lie outside of academia. I see it in business more and more, there is a huge disconnect between those with the business type degrees and those with skills learnt during a lifetime of work. Wandering a bit off topic.
It would be a mistake to say that lead or other pollution is the only cause of crime. The drop in violent crime apparently follows the decrease in lead in more than one country do maybe that lessens societal effects. And there is a known link between lead and brain damage in kids, so we have both a pathway and a correlation.
It’s not proof, but an experiment to reintroduce lead, and see if crime increases, may have a few issues…!
I’m sure education, and a happy, healthy, loving childhood are very important too, of course. But that’s no reason to dismiss other less obvious problems.
Autism rates?
Autism was only widely recognised as a separate diagnosis to Asperger Syndrome in the '80s I think. Rates in it’s diagnosis don’t necessarily correspond to an actual increase of occurance. (Yes, Cavey was careful in his phrasing).
When there are very many influences on a situation it is really difficult to tease out what are real effects, what is normal random variation, and what is effect due to unforeseen circumstances.
Famous case of a factory used to study time/motion efficiency etc. After a time it was noticed that almost ANY change gave an improvement on a Monday morning. The fact that the workers were being watched made them more conscientious.
Wanna improve fuel economy in a truck?
Just tell the driver it’s got a super-duper device fitted. For days they’ll be more alert and think more about economy. Voila, better mpg. Effect wears off after a while but by then you’ve sold a fleet load of gizmos!
Back nearer to the topic I really am sure that pollution is a major problem. Because I’ve grown up with it in the background, (and leaking into the cab,) I’m more blasé than I should be.
We shouldn’t saddle today’s kids with the consequences of our historical ignorance. We now have evidence (never gonna get 100% proof) of harm from pollution, isn’t it prudent to act on that now?
Ushers will be circulating amongst you with a plate when the sermon ends!

On the news only today, It appears that Police in areas of London are upping their game to try and hold back the rise in violent knife and gun related crime amongst young people.
In Scotland violent attacks on teachers in schools has risen to it’s highest in 5 yrs, some of it also knife related.
Looks like we they need even more exhaust gas restriction regulations in both ends of the country then eh?
Maybe regular routes for Eric Nicholsons crew eh?
(Please ffs don’t pick me up on that if you’re a member of the hard of thinking I’m being sarcastic here.

Drop in violent crime my hairy arse.
Knife crime, violence has been on the increase along with the rise of immigration, a lot of people’s from less affluent societys, don’t think twice about using a knife, machete, axe to settle a disagreement, that mindset has now come to these shores.

The PC lot would probably say that the fact that they aren’t chucking spears around, shows that unleaded fuel works.

The recent knife crime epidemic in London is down to 2-stroke.
Scooters are known to cause violence. Every time one comes down my near side I feel a sudden burst of anger.

And those ■■■■ petrol lawn mowers and strimmers are even worse for causing it.
There are pensioners in leafy suburbia who are like coiled springs, you dare not look at them, always looking for ag.
They use any weapon available to them, walking sticks, zimmers, even colostomy bags.
We have gangs of them around here causing havoc on souped up mobility scooters.
This exhaust emmision linked violence is getting ■■■■ worse.
Back to Ad-blue emulators, almost everyone at the firm must have known about it as no ad-blue was being used and no ad-blue repairs being made so all from top to bottom must have been involved.
The UK’s most polluting motor vehicle fills up with red diesel at 62.9ppl earlier today. We even have pollution coming out of the roof.

I’m wondering if you p1ss down the chimney if it’ll have the same beneficial effect as adblue in the exhaust■■?

Could be hazardous to health.
If caught doing it! [emoji3]

The rise in cyclists and other cysts is to blame [emoji12]
something quite ironic that a company dealing in coal is penalised for vehicle emissions.

Could be even more dangerous to the “delivery vessel” if you get too close to the exhaust pipe if the engines been running.
