I was talking to a bloke the other day (a truck driver) and he was over the moon cause he had earnt £32 odd K…I asked him about the hours he’d put in to getting that and the answer was around 70 per week…work that back and it’s only 18 or 19K per year so all in all, it’s not the best. But having said all that, I know somebody who earns 19k P.A. and is happy. It all comes down to personal circumstances at the end of the day.For me it depends on the job.
I can’t earn under a certain amount or I’d struggle to pay bills and have nothing if crap went wrong, so you set a minimum earning amount, that’s per week / month not per hour.
Then, you find a job that pays you that amount, but it’s tramping, now, if you’re away all week, you might as well work as many hours as you can since you’re out of the house for the same length of time anyway, the only difference would be the ca$h that goes in the bank.
So, as a tramper, I’d be doing 70hrs easily, but if I’m home every night, then 12hr days are enough, maybe even more than enough, but they’d have to pay a certain amount per hour for me to be able to do that job. Then you’ve got the jobs where the start time bounces around, but your not actually doing that many hours, but are still more tired and have less time to yourself than if you were doing 12hr days or tramping…
I would agree that if you are away all week, then kick the ■■■■■■■■ out of the job and get as many hours in as you can.
