Look up split daily restAlternatively, a driver can split a regular daily rest period into two periods. The first period must be at least 3 hours of uninterrupted rest and can be taken at any time during the day. The second must be at least 9 hours of uninterrupted rest, giving a total minimum rest of 12 hours. So under this rule you can only do a twelve hour day.
Driving+other work+POA+breaks = 12hr
3hr min rest + 9hr min rest = 12hr
All adds up to 24hrs
15 hrs of duty . Take away the 3 hrs of rest = 12hrs of duty . That’s all the work you an do on a split rest.
9 + 3 = 12 rest + 12hrs duty = 24
Correct, but it’s still a 15hr spread
How can it be a 15hr spread? Your “spread” is dictated by your daily rest if your daily rest has to be a minimum of 12 hours (3hrs + 9hrs) then that leaves another 12 hours only for everything else. I’m struggling to see where the other 3 hours comes from?

I can’t speak for anyone else but I always regard the spread-over as the time from the start of the shift to the end of the shift, which with a split daily rest period can be 15 hours.
15 hrs duty leaves 9hrs rest to make up 24hrs ok
15 hrs duty - 3 hrs rest during your duty means you only worked 12 hrs
the 3hrs rest during your 15hr duty time is added to your 9hrs rest = 12 hrs duty + 12hrs rest = 24hrs
got it ■■

Ok, and you deduct every break you have through the day from your ‘spread’■■
If I start at 4am, I can only work until 7pm, that’s a 15hr spread aka a reduced daily rest.
Now, you can only reduce 3 times per week (between weekly rest periods) but most people do a 5 or 6 day week, so on certain jobs with a lot of sitting around, if you can get a 3hr rest in through the day then that day doesn’t use one of your reduced daily rest days…
Now do you understand??
Most firms that do this type of work pay you from when you start to when you finish, so if I do 4am - 7pm and get 15hrs paid, then I don’t care if I’ve only done 12hrs work or 4hrs work for it.
Surely as a driver you can only drive for 9hrs (10 twice per fixed week period) so you are only working 9hrs then… Ok some jobs have some ‘other work’ too, but you’ve still got to take your breaks, so aren’t working the hours you think / say you are…
79 hours?! Double what I did this week. Do you live to work?

Being a tramper I am at work more than home but it’s not just a job it’s a lifestyle , and I like work as sad as alot of people will think it is but I’ve always worked since 15 or so , unless I win the lottery things ain’t gunna change

Tachograph, I think this is the best way to do it because in the days when I knew less about tacho rules than I do now, when I did a tacho drivers CPC course, I was caught out on this very subject and ended up making out there was 25 hours in a day.

Haha very far from it , the game is ■■■■■■ because people whinge so they employ other nationals who don’t, wich unfortunately brings down the wage as it is better than what they can earn at home, alot of people want it on a plate a feeding to them and in the real world that doesn’t happen

No, the job is ■■■■■■ because of people who are content to do enough work for two blokes just to earn a decent wage. And because some are for whatever reason happy to do that, it is expected of others who aren’t.
That’s why wages are low. Too much focus on the bottom line and not enough attention paid to the hours that go in to earning it.
79 hours in a week? Madness.

Yes it is, I clock watch the tacho waiting for it to click over 8:59 9:00 hrs rest back to work, well actually start at 8:56 but not sure wether it should be on other work whilst I am messing with the tacho to display rest time.
Its like saying 9/10 hours drive isnt a target, but it is youve had a good day stopping on 8:59 or 9:59, but are a loser if you go over!
But I haven’t done the job of 2 people this week as I said I do containers so alot I it is poa/breaks , if I didn’t want to work that many hours I wouldn’t simple as that but I don’t have a job that pays £10 ph so I’m happy to put in overtime to boost my wages
You dont have a £10p/h job cause the boss knows you will do 79+hours a week for bog cleaners money
