Hey guys, the company I drive for often give our drivers runs that are planned over 13 hours. Ive heard people say its against the law for them to do this so was just hoping to get your opinion and if its true is there any info on the internet or vosa website about it.
Thanks in advance for your time and help
No but itโs not a good idea.
I used to work at a company where the planner would make routes using a pc program to the nearest minute. Basically making routes with driving times like 9hr 56. Not so surprising drivers were running out of time very often.
They can only plan for that a max of 3 times between weekly rests unless the driver is using a 3 + 9 split daily rest
It is ALWAYS up to the driver to decide whether it is safe for them to drive = having enough sleep/rest to do so
I often get planned for 16/17/20 hr days, when ever I show it up,I just get told YOU KNOW THE SCORE

Itโs not illegal for a company to plan a run over 13 hours as long as the driver can legally do more than 13 hours.
You could always say no, and if you say no too often the company could always say goodbye, your choice really.
I will never understand how it can be considered a good idea to have a driver work for 13 hours per day.Do the planners have any notion of driving heavy vehicles on crowded roads? What other trades do those long shifts?
The more people who knock theirs pipes out tearing around speeding and using breaks while tipping the worse this job gets. If I was given a stupid day I would do it legally and if it runs out of time over to them. If they sacked me for not doing it I would make โ โ โ โ sure I had recorded routes and my hours and turn it over to whichever Gestapo is relevant
