Is it normal for one of these to take about half an hour to boil a cupful of water or have I just got a ■■■■ one?
Had one of these about 20 year ago…iirc, I got it from a shop in Watford (Truck-King I think it was called)…batteries would have gone flat on the truck before the water would have got even luke warm…went straight in the bin

yes that’s normal
Yep, and it will last about 14 weeks before suddenly either frying 1. itself 2. your 12v socket or most likely 3. both!
Yeah I got fed up waiting after 20mins so went and poured it in to the mug and it’s hot but not boiling. I thought it would be easier than taking out the gas stove but no point using it if it takes that long to boil.

well it’s definitely going in the bin now. Back to the gas stove it is!
Get a 24v one, boils a cup in 5 minutes
Yes i use to have a 12v kettle and it took for ever to boil, your better just getting 1 of them 12v cups/travel mugs there good
When I was night trunking, used to stick my 24v kettle on when I hopped on the M40 at Jn 9, and it would be ready to make a half decent cup of coffee by the time I got to Warwick services.
The plug used to get almost as hot as the water though!
Don’t bother with electric kettles now as bought 2 waeco a recently & melted both ends, once nearly starting a fire, dunno kettles fault or faulty socket.
Gas only from now on.
Whatever voltage, unless wired properly to the battery, they are crap.
Tried them all.
I stopped at the services south of Wetherby saw a kettle in there with no marked price so asked the price, after the guy made a phone call he confirmed it was £ 19.00 I said I wasn’t paying that for a kettle ! So he then said that I could refill my flask the hot water out of the drinks machine as it was a one off, so I thanked him & offered to pay for it as a cheaper option. He kindly refused payment.
On reading that the kettle seems to take so long to boil, I would have been well miffed if I had paid nearly 20 quid for a kettle !! I am going to keep to my flask, & maybe take my little gas stove with me instead.
I’ll have a cuppa tea…in 20 minutes haha sounds like murder! 20 minutes afore you stop driving you need to reach over and stick eh kettle on.
Silver surfer was talking about a Samsung roadmate could you not boil water in that?
Jimmi I’ve just bought the exact same kettle off amazon!
jimmi:
0 less than 2 mins with this. I had 3 24v kettles in less than 6 months and got fed up of them burning out the plugs. I’m sticking to gas now.
That’s what I’ve got, only mine is blue!
