That clip always reduces me to an emotional wreck, destroyed lives of good young men far better than those who sent them could ever hope to become.
Maye they all rest in peace, from that war and from all others.
Its no reflection on them that politicians and other equally useless fools before and since, unfit to stand beside those fine men, betrayed them.

This scene is testament also to how good Ben Elton and Tony Curtis were and what respect they had to the fallen as they made it a sobering tribute to the fallen and not a comedy sketch mocking it , even though the rest of the series mocked the leaders and generals and the political silliness of WW1
I can’t stand Ben Elton or Blackadder - “I have a cunning plan” - repeat 50 times an episode - but that scene is powerful. Only good thing Ben Elton ever did.
I’m surprised Remembrance Sunday and the Armistice hasn’t been marked more by these forums.
Five years ago, I did my own remembrance piece.
In times of war, you expect your Far Right to be the ones “Signing up” and “Volunteering” to fight for their country as patriots, whilst the paficists are quite happy to stay at home, and bonk their sweethearts, making money from spivving whilst doing it…
Last weekend surely showed us that it is OK to let Anti-Semite marches take place as “Free Speech”, but the moment anyone “Far Right” turns up - they are to be arrested, accosted, blocked, kettled, and then lied about on top on sight…
I didn’t hear of a single Anti Semite or Pro Hamas person being arrested AT ALL.
THe charges against the “Hooligans” on the other hand, consisted of the non-event crimes of “Resisting arrest” or “Causing affray” - which wouldn’t have bloody happened IF the police had stuck to policing the Pro Terrorist march, rather than blocking those who wanted to march alongside like other military personnel used to have to do as a ritual year after year…
As more and more War Veterans die off - the reason for Rememberence has been fogged by this obsession with “Rights” over “Substance” being fought for.
“Peaceful Protest” is the worst “Right” of all: It encourages and emboldens actual criminals (as defined by current statue laws) whilst discouraging patriots and public spiritedness.
What next I wonder?
“Hamas kicks in farmers door to ■■■■ and pillage - only to get blown away by farmer with shotgun…”
“Police arrest Farmer, no charges brought against other gang members who fled the scene for their lives, only stopping to report this act of “self defence” as wilful murder, which the police quickly acted upon”….
Oh wait - that’s already happened, and more than once - hasn’t it?
The message is clear: The government will NOT PROTECT YOU if you are a law-abiding, taxpaying UK citizen.
You HAVE no rights of your own, other than to “peacefully protest”, but if you are Right of Karl Marx - don’t even expect THAT right to be upheld!
Quite frankly it is amazing how many people who don’t believe in God, let alone Christ - are quite happy to “Forgive our enemies” and “Pray for those who hurt us” eh?
“Forgiveness” - cannot be done by proxy.
“Forgetting” can easily be done by lying to people about what actually happened.

Thank you very much for making that tgf1961.
I would like to know the story of C.E. PAYNE at 9mins 46 secs.
Died on 22nd November 1918, aged 52. Buried with full military honours.
And thanks for sharing that poem at 17 mins 30 secs, I hope that you don’t mind me showing it again. It seems very appropriate after what happened last Saturday.
“It is the Soldier, not the minister
Who has given us freedom of religion.
It is the Soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the Soldier, not the poet
Who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer
Who has given us freedom to protest.
It is the Soldier, not the lawyer
Who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It is the Soldier, not the politician
Who has given us the right to vote.
It is the Soldier who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protester to burn the flag.”

I was taken by that poem when I first heard it on TV a few years ago. The more that hear it or read it, the better in my opinion.
The fallen serviceman that was selected for me was selected by the Royal British Legion, and had it not been for the worldwar1Luton.com website, I would not have known very much at all about Able Seaman William Vise - certainly not enough to write/record anything substantial about him.
I’ve looked up Private C. E. Payne on the website. There is quite a bit of info there!

Are you a distant relative?
Thanks for commenting on my video.
