Which would you have or wouldn’t have and why looking with interest around 08 to 10 plates seen some clean examples for the money .no badge snobs please
Both very good motors , if the 105 has a manual gearbox that’s what I would go for , looking forward with interest as to what others will say .!!!.
For say £10k you should be able to deal on a 2011 460DXi Premium with say 400k on her.
It would be near perfect for 1/2 maybe 3nights away but bit tight for all week.
They drive like a dream IMHO.
The 105 would prob br tge job for away all week but what yr/km for £10k??
The AS-tronic box not a patch on the Premiums “I-shift” or engine brake.
The Premiun or XF105 ,is an odd pairing if the same price milage etc then the XF…I could understand a XF v Magnum or CF 85 v Premium Xf is in a different league to the Premium

I am always just slightly amused by comments regarding the use of the Premium for any more than a few nights out in its cab . I operate out of a company in Scotland where Turkish based Premiums are regular callers , and by the looks of the motors they have seen a bit of life , I also recall meeting some Willi-Betz Premiums which were double manned , and also Norbett-Dentrestangle Premiums driven by French drivers . Some of the drivers mentioned must spend 2/3 weeks living in their cabs far more than 1/2 nights being suggested . Can someone out there please tell me what sort of cab you want to live in , my concussion is that with an attitude some people have on their need for ever more expensive motors its little wonder that foreign based transport operators and their drivers will continue to take work from operators in this country .

I admit that I’ve never done a full week away in a Premium but the ones I used to drive regular at McCulla looked “tight” for nights out.
IE,
The drivers who tramped in them usually had the passenger footwell crammed with gear as the toplockers only went halfway across!!!
If I remember correctly those that had the fold out top bunk maybe had a bit more storage for gear.[emoji6]
This little “venture” we’re looking at ref the “truck lease” thread will involve possibly having a dayshift truck based in NI to tip/load trailers off the boats.
If will undoubtedly be a Premium bought straight with a LOT of haggling from a mainland source!!![emoji106]
Changing tack slightly daf xf seem to be very cheap compared to big cab offerings from other manafacturers.
I haven’t a lot of experience with the Daf except a few days on agency with an automatic one a few years ago, I can see the appeal of the cab size for tramping, but I reckon you’d get a far better deal on Second hand Premiums, I’ve been looking around and you can get 2 to 3 years old ones with low mileage for not a lot of money and they come with remainder of manufacturers warranty and a 2 year drive line warranty on top.
I’ve done plenty of weeks out in them and I didn’t need my footwell full of gear, the main problem was outside storage, especially as I was on flatbed work and needed to carry brick nets, chains and straps.
Simple question do you want manual or auto.
Auto then Renault, manual if Daf every time due to the ■■■■ poor auto gearbox…its not unreliable its simply awful and ruins an otherwise decent lorry whatever make or power chassis they stick the thing in.
CF is just as good a lorry though IMO, 460 manual you will have a strong performing lorry well up to the job with not many vices and a more useful cab than many give them credit for.

Well said that man , CFs are very but very underrated motors .
Just my opinion
but would you be able to get a 6x2 2010/11 CF460 SC for about £10k without “mega” KMs??

Early versions of the MX engine engine had a great thirst for oil, although later versions seem to be ok. XFs I’ve driven also seem to have age problems with indicator switchgear on the steering wheel. Our Dafs 12 reg approx 750k have mostly had new hubs on the drive axles but other than that are ok.
Premiums seem to go well and have by far the better semi auto box. Never seem to have enough leg room tho and I’m not tall. Plenty of plastic on the front so you won’t get a Daf style rusty bumper.
Not driven a Premium recently, and My last was a 420DCI manual ZF 16 speed box. I drove Premiums from 98 til 09, 11 years, always tramping, Starting with a 385, then 3 420dci’s, rarely had a spanner put to then outside regular servicing, as had been said you need out side lockers fitted, but other than that, an adequate truck.

ll just see all the usual rubbish from them .!!!
I drove a Premium for a few months and found it to be a workhorse that was more than up to the job. My only complaints were that with me being tall I struggled to get my left leg comfortable due to lack of legroom. Also in winter I found that the heating to the drivers side was inadequate and resulted in me running the night heater all day . I think these “faults” are down to the fact that they are a left hand drive cab converted to RHD for our market.
I also had a 105 for a number of months too and found the spacious cab to be better for nights out, however the Renault wins for doing the job for which it is intended better.
As an aside; if I close my eyes and concentrate I can recreate perfectly in my head the sound that goes da da ding da da ding da da ding constantly! Can you guess which one of the two trucks that was?
Maoster thats just taken me back about 10 years to a phone call with me mate, the da da ding sounded and he said, ‘you’re in a Daf’.
Can’t remember why it made the sound though, was it seat belt warning or me reversing with the door open?

I only drove the later Premiums for a short while, but I think they were a major improvement on the older version, more grunt, quieter, comfortable to drive and the auto box was able to tackle the varied work we were doing, plus you got a proper engine brake. They were a bit cramped for the left foot, and lacked outside locker space. but overall not a bad truck for most jobs.

Or engine warning number 1.
Or any other tiny little thing as I recall…
I could rip my own ears off just at the mere memory of it!
FL Volvos used to ‘‘bing bing bing’’ like buggery which could equally get on ones nerves, apparently adjusting said ‘binger’ with a small screwdriver through the perforation in the dash where said noise came from quietened them down a bit.
was having this very conversation with my service guy last week, his verdict, price for price buy a stralis, ive not met anyone with newer premium that hasn’t had horrendous electrical faults, shame coz the older model 385/400/420 were a sound wagon imo, the 95’s were nicer to drive but as with anything in transport the passage of time does not bring progress
