Hello Everyone. Can a 10 hour driving day be split in this way.
4hrs Driving, 45 min break, 4hrs Driving 45 min break, 2 hour driving = 10ths total driving time.
I’m pretty sure the last period can only be 1 hour driving but I’m hoping I’m wrong. I’m just planning a run and the longer 2hr driving period would work better for me. Many thanks Glyn.
No where I know that says the last period can only be one hour.
The .gov site gives an example of
2hrs drive–45 break–4hr30 drive–45break–3hr30 drive–
so it must be OK.
Periods can be any length as long as You don’t go over 10 hrs or 4 .5
Nothing to stop you doing it in reverse IE drive 2 hrs break drive 4 hrs break drive another 4 hrs.
What ever suits you as long as take relevant breaks during your shift and don’t exceed 13 / 15 hours
As the two posts above say the driving time can be split in any lengths as long as you do not go over 4 1/2 hours driving time without a 45 minute break.
There is no rule that says the last period of driving can only be 1 hour so if you want to plan for the last driving period to be 2 hours or whatever, it’s perfectly legal.
I know the tacho will display remaining hours left but these kitchen timers are handy for drive time, break times and a countdown timer for a daily rest period.
To be fair they’re better for boiling eggs and such that monitoring driving or break times.
Where possible you should always take the driving and break times from the tachograph display, I don’t think a DVSA bod telling you that you’ve had insufficient break is going to be very impressed when you tell him that your Salter cooking timer disagrees with him
