does it have to be an iphone sim specifically?
would an ordinary 02 sim do the trick?whats the difference anyway.
i have looked on ebay and googled this,but cant seem to find it.
i located a 02 dongle no prob.

Somehow, people are managing to get the sim cards that o2 give away with the iPhone. Its a Favourite Place tarrif, but when you activate it with £10, you get an introductory 12 months of mobile internet usage.
The ‘trick’ people have found is to insert this sim card into a USB modem and thus get the internet access without buying o2 standard access at £2, £7.50 or £15
Yes, apparently o2 are checking the IMEI numbers of units that access using these sim cards, and if it doesn’t come back as an iPhone, its breaking terms and conditions, and therefore they block it. I have’nt tried it myself.
The dongle does come with a sim, but its only a standard 3g affair.

get an iphone and reg the sim card in the phone,
then put it in the dongle.
is there an imei number in the dongle?

I have an unlocked dongle that I can put any sim card in. I have ordered an o2 iphone sim and am going to register it in myh brothers iphone then attempt to use it in my dongle. By the way, I got both from ebay. Will post how I get on with it.

Greg50, yes there is an IMEI in the modem unfortunately.
I just wanted to update this thread as I have just discovered that the Vodafone top ups do not expire.
Read this page to confirm this.
The main snag with it - you can’t seem to get the SIM card seperately, although there will maybe be some around on eBay.
