Drove a 07 plate MAN yesterday &

from a purely driving perspective it was great.

Last one I drove was a W reg with a stupid slap across box & I hated it but this was a revelation.

The comfiest seat I’ve found in any truck, easy to find a good driving position, no excess noise… in fact I would be struggling to find any bad points.

Having driven Scania’s, Dafs & Mercs in the last few weeks I would say that this MAN is better than all of them.

For nights out it lacks any storage space & the bunk looks very thin but as I don’t do tramping I’m only bothered with the driving aspect

Quick addition…
It had a Stoneridge digi, the most user unfriendly kit I’ve ever come across!

I’m with you there mate!

Love the TGX and TGS. Especially the bigger cabbed TGX’s as they have nice wide beds.
Dash is well laid out and its a good big cab with nice seats.

However plenty who haven’t driven them seem to think they fall apart like Britney Spears. So prepare for incoming

I agree, I had a pretty new one the other week, the auto box was better than my 07 car, very nice bit of kit, VERY fit for purpose :sunglasses:

Those that slag them off, are either still thinking of the old style column change freak show, or, they are Scania / Volvo bores :unamused: :unamused:

P.S., I like Volvo FHs, with the I shift, very hard to fault, the M.A.Ns are in the same league IMHO :open_mouth: , not too sure about the back up though :open_mouth:

the company i work for a trying to sell my beloved 2002 TGA when i got back to the yard yesterday he was out photographing it for the advert

but all is not bad news its now not being replace by a XF105 but by a TGX

ill let you know next month

I must admit after all I’ve read about them on here I was a bit negative when they handed me the keys but… I loved it (almost literally  )

Just to compare… I had a 06 Axor on Tuesday & had to stop halfway home to get out & relieve the pain. The seat was like a park bench!! No way could I find a comfy driving positiion.

Dunno how well they last but then that’s not really my concern. As long as it gets me from A-B (comfy) that’s good enough

i agree about the axor. i cant drive them for too long without giving my back a break from it. the TGX is totally different though. its one of the few trucks i can drive without getting back pains. its nice to see there are some here who agree with my opinion on them. as i said before im happy if im given a TGX or an actros

i have to say something that is less important though. it is a handsome beast

I was lucky enough to drive a TGX XXL a couple of weeks back for a week, like above absolutely best truck i’ve ever driven, both bunks! were very good though the top one was noticeably wider, seats are so good that at the end of shift you don’t feel like you’ve done any work, should be one WTD for TGX MAN drivers and another for ‘the others’, 07’s ain’t that bad either, but ergonomics in cab aren’t that great IMO, but same supperb seats, very quiet driver.

Why?
If its nice to drive now then who cares what happens down the line, I’m not an O/D at the moment, so if it breaks someone comes and fixes it.

Long term reliability IS a factor yes. But in my day to day work if a cab is modern, well equipped, comfortable, quiet and a good tool to do the job then I’ll say so now. What happens down the line is a separate issue.

Alex

well to say most firms keep them for 3 or more years then id say it does matter when your stuck with it

to be fair all trucks break down at some point. while part of the problem is how well built they are, a lot of it comes down to the kind of work they do, how they are maintained, how they are driven etc etc etc. it isnt fair to condemn them on reliability based purely on the manufacturing stage alone

Are you lot mad?

I’ve had a TGA for just over a year now, and it’s the biggest load of junk I have ever driven. It’s spent a total of 10 weeks in the workshop, and still aint right.

It’s not a comfy motor to drive and is absolutely appaling for nights out.

I’m hoping to get rid of it by the end of the year, and that won’t be a day too soon.

Heap of German ERF [zb]

Women drivers :unamused:

I’ve just finished doing a 14 week stint in a brand new TGX on bulk tipper work and I loved it to bits. It was a really nice drive, comfy and quiet. The only downside I found was that the front overhang is too low to the ground for bulker work really as it scrapes on the ground in a lot of the farms I had to go to and annoyingly scraped badly enough to rip it off at one which resulted in a lot of new bits of plastic being needed for the front end… Other than that nothing broke or fell off it at all.

Paul

Well i really hope the new ones are an improvement i really do but time will tell. Its a valid point to say who cares what happens down the road to another mans truck but i couldnt take a chance like that,i have to sit in them for 7 years at a time.

Horrible,Horrible, nasty,■■■■ horrible, full of blind spots plasticky ■■■■ planned out interior, like driving a mobile greenhouse,…shall I go on? :unamused:

havent driven one of the new ones,so cant comment on them, heard they have a nice stereo system in em though with a big Bass tube under the seat

cant agree with you and kate more there ■■■■■■■ ■■■■

I had a look at the TGX at Asten truckstop in Holland the other week, and had high hopes for it, because it looked great.
Outside, it does look wonderful, the seat is good, the dash is nice too, and I like the almost non-existent dash, it’s so narrow!
All the glass gives a light, airy feel to the cab, but you lose a lot of storage for that. and what’s the idea with putting the handbrake in a little tray on the floor?
It could be a magnificent beast, but it’s not quite there either.
Cupholders made of cheap plastic, that fit in lil clips in the tray… poor cupboards, and limited places to put things, and the huge windscreen which is there… why?
Better storage, and move that handbrake, and shrink the front window, and buy better plastic, and it’ll be up there with the mercs of the world.

up there with the mercs? That is presumably relating to the actros and not the axor?

Iv got another 4 series 124L420 for tonight. Ex corby unit. Mid lift doesnt lift. Stereo doesnt work. Heater is on full regardless of how its set. Gearbox is extremely tight compared to the black 1 i had last friday. On the upside its limited to 59 instead of 56 so i should get home early tomorrow. Im parking up at tradimar in aberdeen tonight
