Doctors On Wheels

Cheap medical? Maybe not so cheap if you have just used this bunch or have one booked soon.

Tweet by Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT).

We have been notified by DVLA that as of 20 June 2019, the Agency can no longer accept D4 medical reports completed by Doctors on Wheels Ltd. Applications received prior to 20/6 are unaffected.

Its been updated on the Gov.UK site today

Details

Some doctors will be able to fill in both the vision and medical assessment sections of the report.
If your doctor is unable to fully answer all the questions on the vision assessment, you must have it filled in by an optician or optometrist.

As of 20 June 2019, DVLA no longer accepts medical applications (D4) completed by Doctors on Wheels Ltd.

So how much extra, is this going to cost, bet the Opticians will want £30+ just to tick a few boxes, another cost we’ve got to ■■■■ up. Unless your lucky enough to get company to pay.

Their website says “The Doctors on Wheels site is temporarily unavailable due to maintenance” which would seem to be more than coincidence.

I believe there are other similar mobile doctors that aren’t mentioned, therefore can be used.

Ken.

And some similar named company will appear shortly. Docs on wheels or similar.

£19 at ASDA but it’s a full all-round check so incl. peripheral vision etc.; lasted about 20-30 mins, my eyes hurt at the end. You have to make an appointment 1st

Have used Doctors On Wheels for a medical. My appointment was a last minute booking and they couldn’t get a urine sample bottle posted to me in time for my medical so the advice I was given was just take the sample in a used drinks bottle, so I did, armed with a lucozade bottle, full of pee handed it over, jobs a good un.

I used a company a couple of year ago at Oulton,Leeds was £50 and he failed me on eyesight,he didn’t fill the eyesight part in and told me to go to optician,so I booked in to the nearest Boots, downloaded there £10 eye test voucher and did it there.
He passed me no problems after full eye test(photos and lot) and charged me £10 to fill paperwork in(£20 eyes,£50 medical).
Optician said doctors don’t like filling eyesight bit in anymore,it’s too much hassle,it came Back straight away though, may be because it had two stamps on…

Given there is no requirement for any fluid samples for a D4, they may just have been taking the urine

Just use one of the other outfits - e.g. D4drivers

Fair enough suggestion, but you have to wonder if there was a specific problem with DoW or whether the DVLA are starting to take a more generally hostile approach to medicals carried out by doctors other than the driver’s own GP?

I’m sure it’s a possibility, Harry - But the fact they’ve singled out DoW for specific mention on the official .gov website (along with the DoW website being unavailable) suggests to me it’s only the one outfit that has cocked up.

Well that’s just my luck. I had an appointment with them on the 19th all done and sorted sent it all first class recorded so the DVLA got the forms the next day. Now I have my fingers crossed to see what happens. Would have been nice if the Notice got put up sooner on the gov site so I could have used someone else.

Heard of diabetes? A urine sample, although not strictly required was requested for the medical. Urine/lucozade sample passed the test

Had to to provide a sample on my last one as well for the dip test

Diabetes only worries DVLA if you are taking insulin. The missus injects for type 2 but its Victoza.

Any medical I have ever had they have wanted a fresh sample, not something the dog may have done last week.

My last medical cost me £360, because my dr doesn’t agree that him carrying out the eye test as accurate I have to book medical and optician separately, £80 for the medical the optician was £20, but as I failed the eye test it cost me another £260 for glasses.

Roymondo,
Just to confirm, as you’ve suggested this relates only to Doctors on Wheels and does not affect private driver medical providers on a wider scale. DVLA has given us confirmation that the HGV medical format has not changed, you can still visit either your own GP or another registered Doctor as long as it is not Doctors on Wheels.
Hope this helps clarify the situation as we wouldn’t want anyone being given the wrong information.
Ryan,
D4Drivers.
