Just a quick warning for all. I have heard similar stories to this before but now experienced it for the first time.
HGV driver will full CE entitlement. Got some speeding points in his car and was told to send his licence in. Licence came back with points on as expected. This was November 2011
Routine 3 monthly licence check at where he works - NO CE entitlement to be seen.
Heās been taken off the road while this gets sorted. Phoned DVLA who said there is a medical condition preventing him having a CE category. A note has been entered in November 2011 - which is when his licence went in for the speeding points.
Driver assures me he knows nothing of this and it seems this is a DVLA ā ā ā ā up - who of course argue otherwise.
Lesson to be learnt - check your licence and keep copies. Luckily the place he works has 3 monthly copies dating back a couple of years - all with CE on.
I always scan my licence as soon as it arrives and back it up to online storage. I have paid too much money to lose my categories because of a Welsh lad fresh out of nappies who doesnāt know how to do his job properly.
Loads of folk lost their bike entitlement when doing change of address etc. If you donāt notify within six months and have no way of proving (and Iām not sure what they class as proof as one such case was a bike copper/bike police instructor who had to retake his test as out Welsh friends wouldnāt even believe a letter from the chief constable) itās gone for good!
One guy had points for speeding on a big bike (police documented), didnāt get done for riding a bike he didnāt have a licence for so therefore it should follow, he had the correct licence, but again, retest!
If you play your cards right here, in the process of getting the C+E put back on, they might make the mistake of forgetting to put the 3 points on as wellā¦Thereās got to be as much chance of a cockup here leaving you better off as there is of it leaving you worse off I would have thought?

No chance, although before I send my licence off I get it photocopied at work and get the TM to certify it.
Yeah they do seem to make an awful lot of foul upās, even if you send it in recorded they still have to put it on the system and the system is only as good as the person entering the info. I posted on here about a mate having to fill in a medical form after being stopped by plod, he did all this and had to take a full medical in the end (paid for by DVLA) it was sent back recorded and he has now received a letter telling him not to drive after the 18th of this month, he rang them and asked what it was about to be told that āwe made a mistake, all your details are on the system so ignore the letterā, he asked for written confirmation in case he was stopped but they refused and said itās on the system! Bunch of tossers!!

we have all known this for years, why donāt they cover themselves?
they really deserve it sometimes.
Well yes, I am one of those that was affected years ago, I applied for a photo licence but kept my paper one because I had lost it and lo and behold when it came back I would have been lucky to drive a bloody lawnmower, after a few calls I was told they had no record of me passing my HGV (as it was) despite me giving them the day/time/place and the name of the tester they were adamant I didnāt hold the entitlement, I asked about records from testers and was told we donāt have them for that year? WTF, anyway I luckily found my old licence copied it and sent it recorded to them with the blank new one I had and within a week it was back with everything on it. Jeeeez

well thereās an idea.
new drivers could try it on. they donāt bother passing a test, just get a fake licence made up, copy it. play up [zb] with dvla, send in the copy, and abrakadabra, you have a new hgv licence.
itās that mad, itāll probably work.

Passed mine in the early 80ās so I am guessing that there must be different systems in place now, but it was a good idea
