Very view mention the bricking of vehicles from bridges, you could get done even if you werenât involved in moving coal in some areas.

Donât you need a special shutter speed to photograph Yuill and Dodds
I know of an outfit(belongs to a big group now) north of Kendal who had âmagicâ switches on all their tachos,so as one of their motors was leaving Aberdeen travelling south one day, coming towards him on his side of the dual carriageway was a car.So âthe driverâ reaches over and flicks the switch on to start the tacho! The car ploughs into the artic head on! when the Law gets hold of the tach card it was showing an acceleration 0 to 56 faster than Jenson Button could manage in a formulae 1 car!!! Whats this then driver? Oh I switched my Tacho on before he hit me, WHAT!!! Theres more but thats enough! Bewick.

come on berwick tell us more
I believe that that the MD was locked in his office while the D.o.T. lads ransacked it!!! And a nationwide call went out and all their motors were pulled and the Law/ministry cut all the speedo cables with bolt cutters!

Anyone got any photos or tales about Yuill and Dodds.
hi all,
during the 1980âs yuill and dodds used to do a fair bit of work out of south wales, mainly running 142âs.they used to hunt in packs you would be trundling up the m50,minding your own business, then next thing you knew, three of them had come howling past years later,i remember trying to keep up with a topline 580 and 610 fh on the a66 near appleby,i was in my restored f88,with a virtually empty flat behind me,these guys were fully loaded with â â â â â from beckton east london.i had real trouble keeping up with them .
yuill and dodds are easily one of my favourite scottish firms,i used to love the livery, before they replaced it with vinyl crap.they always seemed to be going faster and doing more than everyone else.
regards andrew.

Thats true,i was heading south down Beattock sometime around 1989 and 1 past me and he must have been doing around a ton,as i was pushing 80,then another 6 past me and at the bottom was a radar!!
At that time they quite often passed me going up Shap on the M6, I was only light loaded with double glazing and went over flat out in top. I presumed they were running home with empty tippers, I later learnt that they were fully frieghted with steel coils in the bottom of the tipper body !
When i knew them there day was COIL TO SHOTTON,SALT BACK TO GLASGOW AND TWO LOADS FROM HUNTERSTON TO RAVENSCRAIG,not a bad days work. Also got informed the scania rep was passed by six new 142,s all doing over 90 and he cancelled the warranty on them
a couple of these Volvoâs came in to crossroads normanton when they were working down here, one of the drivers was called graham, smashing old lad,but when he barked boy did you now about it,lucky i got on with him.any body now him.i think they got new scanias later on .k2

Similar story during the early seventies.Scanny rep is trundling down the M90 at 70mph when whoosh, six of Yuillys finest shoot buy. When he gets to the office rep phones up Yuills and tells him they won`t be standing by the warranty on these lorries.Fine, comes the reply, cancel the order for the other thirty.
Doubt very much it was true.
The biggest pack of tippers I`ve seen was Tractor Shovels, sat at Newbridge roundabout for what seemed forever one Friday waiting to get out
