Think them skirts to hide the mini lift look a bit weird if you ask me, well weirder than the mini lift looks in the first place.
Is the half tonne saving odd really worth the reduced tyre life & loss of manoeuvre of a mini lift compared to a full size steered axle?
Not to hijack the thread just always wondered. I’ve already worked out that it’s not worth having a rear steer on a trailer if you are paid by weight so maybe this answers my own question.

The full size axle on my MAN is non steering and as ive said, whenever im off road and under 30kph when loaded I always have the midlift up. If I get the DAF doctored to this effect I dont think ill notice excess tyre wear.

Just remember the mini midlift on the daf is only plated for 4400kg matt and it can be overloaded

Arr maybe not, they do need replacing more often just cuz they’re smaller. I’m sure you’ll be careful but if you’re max weight & don’t lift him they can pop off the rim well on knifed trailers anyway.
Saw an RJM unit today as well so they’re still going just weird he’s got a few trailers in Wye commercials.
Best of luck with it anyway. Ahh, the smell of new stuff!

well xfmatt did you see anything you liked…
I did mate, bought a XF105 FTP. Dealt with Venessa as Julian is away. Very pleased with the service.
Matt
I got the DAF, the XF, and the 105 bits, I know what one of those looks like; but WTF is an FTP please? and all the other mumbo-jumbo which particularly DAF come out with - there’s an FA? and an FT? as well isn’t there?
Not sure what the letters stand for but FTP is the lightweight midlift axle, FTG is the full size midlift, FT is a 4x2 unit, FTR is a rear lift (tag) unit. Not sure of the rest!!
Matt
A little off topic but might be of interest having asked the question

Many thanks for that, I had tried several times unsuccessfully to find something on a DAF website to explain the various codes.
