Would I look a complete tw@t going to interview in shirt+tie

Well done I reckon your smart turnout instantly gave you the edge over most of the others. Mr tracky bottoms and t-shirt just shows lack of respect to the interviewer and possibly a casual attitude to the job/kit.

Calv89:
I went for shirt and tie. Felt a bit overdressed when the other applicants turned up, one in trackies and one in blue jeans and a hoodie.

I got the job tho despite being newly passed. I think cos it’s a food company they are more picky with presentation

Well done on getting the job.

On the few occasions that I have been interviewed for a driving job, I thouht of it more as me interviewing them. Do I want to work for this company? Do they have a pension scheme? What about holidays and holiday pay? Are the motors well looked after. Do they take my health and safety seriously?

sinclair89:
Clean Black Jeans, polo shirt (grey, black, navy blue) and a nice pair of boots …my preferred choice being black timberland.

A clean folder with all your documents and cards in.

A firm handshake.

Can do the firm handshake np but timberland don’t really make boots my size so what would you recommend

Well done on getting that job

I havent had the interview process for a while but would defo go for a shirt and tie job (due to my reputation on this forum I should add I would be wearing trousers and shoes also), just giving yourself an edge over other candidates and creating a lasting first impression can be the difference.

Carry some work clothes with you in your car is good in case they ask when can you start and you can reply right now if you want.

Doing some research into the company could be usefull as well.

Cool story but what did you wear?

Well done. You obviously did the right thing. Hope it all goes well.

Give up policing the thread :unamused:

By the way, it wasn’t advice Einstein. RTFR

I’ve always supported your view for a long time on here but increasingly you can be a bit too self satisfied; the motivation for your responses seemingly to draw admiration for directness. What’s happened to you?

I’ve been to two driving job interviews, suit and tie both times and got offered a job at both places.

I was never turned down for a single job. But that was then, this is now.

Do you work for CLX?

Can I ask who you are and pm me if you’re asking who I work for and why? On a public forum it’s non of your business. I’d like to know why you’re asking. That’s the second time you’ve mentioned CLX.

Ok so I wore some dark navy jeans, timberland boots, navy stone island cardigan (badge removed) and a grey t-shirt.

Her first comments to me after checking my picture out on my driving licences was “you do look like a bit of a thug”.

However, she was wearing tracksuit bottoms and the rest of the office were dressed as elves so not sure what to make of it all.

On the whole thought it went ok. Will find out early next week

PS. I have grade zero all over ‘haircut’ so no amount of shirt and tie shenanigans is going to change perceptions of me

Good luck SMB hope you get it.

Depends on your point of view, and whether you want to show deference or give and receive respect. If you are going to go in your jeans, why not wear a cap so you can doff it too…or maybe just tug your forelock? Wear a suit!!

Done a delivery to an office where someone was wearing a stormtrooper outfit!
As for interview, suit and tie everytime AND research the company.

Oh well, never mind. There will be other jobs mate. Chalk it up to experience and follow the sensible advice next time.
