I replied in the same vein (brain in neutral)
So it’s agreed that I like them and you don’t!

my father got one of those to replace his Bedford S type (I think it was an S type - it was one of the ones that looked like a green goddess) - he thought it was good I only got to drive them off road - but when you’re in your early teens anything seems great
and before any comedians start - yes it was a long time ago
I have just remembered about an old Bedford TK I drove for a builders merchent, that was a complete dog!!!
But I have to admit to being a TwinSplit fan, I would always opt for a twin over any of the other boxes, But then I am lazy by nature and the twin split is a lazy mans box…Twinsplit on containers…ideal match
A Scania fridge.
Made my back hurt driving it.
Correct, anything that came of the ERF production line should have been driven straight to the scrap yard to save time.
any scania there not made for people who are 6ft 4
i still like em tho i think they look good imo

It looks like democracy, on this DB at least, disagrees with you.
I’d say a twinsplitter 'box can only be beated by a decent autobox.
Sorry Mal…
But easily the worst was a short wheelbase Seddon Atkinson 311
the ride was terrible, the controls were mostly unreacable, and the bunk was as welcoming as the Home end of Millwall FC is to away supporters

That could be Mark on the Honest John website then.!!!

you should all come to Romania and try driving a Roman or a Dac you would never complain about another truck ever again.
if i was to say whats wrong with them it would fill up this section.

A Roman. That’s just a down market MAN isn’t it? Do they still make them and do they still have that column change? Or was that a Saviem? That last has got to be a good candidate.
Otherwise the so-called ‘New Generation’ Merc that Micky White used to keep for UK work. Never mind the struggle to pull anything heavier than the proverbial rice pudding skin, it had a handbrake lever set in just the right place to rub against your knee the whole trip. I had a big bruise after one run up to Northants from Dover. Couldn’t wait to get back over the water with me 89.
Salut, David.
Anything ‘Renault’ closely followed by anything ‘ERF’, including the new ERF based on the MAN TGA cab, ECT is it ?
I’ve driven one (53-reg) for C Butts at Ossett on several occasions and I was looking forward to the experience first time round, thinking it would be much like a MAN TGA - how very wrong to think that. Awful motors - must be the worse current production truck going, along with the Renaults.

Im with Bren ANY ERF especially with that dog of a box the twin splitter (cue twin splitter fans to send in mails saying how brill twin splitters are)But twin splitters are brilliant. If you hated them, you weren’t using it right!
Agree many times over, used to have an MAN 362 with one fitted. my mate had an F12 385, couldnt keep with me off traffic lights and roundabouts. And i wouldnt mind if they stuck a twin splitter in the renault. As for worst truck driven that acolade goes hands down to a G290 renault, and i used to do 4-5 nights out a week in it, what was i thinking May be it was punishment for all that deisel i burned racing Volvos

Ah yes.My compatriots at Ossett, who claim they never do anything wrong.
Actually,if they looked after their motors, then they may be half decent.I have driven both the TGA,and one of our Ossett motors, and you can see that the ‘TGA’ ERF is built to save cost. But I must say,for the age of their fleet,it’s worse than ours, and we run Premiums.
At least there is some space in our Renaults.

I have a question about C ■■■■!
Who is or was Tom?
There used to be an advert on the back of their trailers.
I saw a Butts Renault in Symphony livery yesterday
Two ancient Fords I had the misfortune to drive several years ago, the first was used by a steel company & its gear box kept locking up & it then dumped all the water from the rad the second was a rental auto box that started to smoke from the gearbox area, but we never did discover why.
Also a Renault Magnum I brought back from adealers in the Manchester area comes very close, it’s gear box was stuffed & it was very hard work to drive, it also kept having bits fall off which did little for my confidence in getting it home.
I would also have to add any Mercedes commercial vehicle, PSV or HGV, they are just so cheap & nasty.

Ooh Well done, what a brave chap
My thoughts exactly
Oh, so many bad trucks…
Merc 1617- apparently 170 horses, not that you could find any of them!
Foden 3350 - rubber suspension, exhaust stack up behind the driver so you melted in summer and that cable gearshift - thanks guys
Leyland cruiser. 'nuff said.
Merc twin steers circa 1990-1995 They had the turning circle of a battleship!
But for me the all time baddie has to be the Bedford TK. What on earth were they thinking of?
Personal favourites.
Anything with a twin split. Has anyone mentioned how good that gearbox was?
S-ride F10. Its only downfall was when pulling up a (very) steep hill heavily loaded it would settle its weight onto the two rear axles rendering the steering useless! You could put full lock on and it would just keep going in a straight line. I used to go to one place with a bend half way up. It was so steep you daredn’t ease the power off to get the weight on the front to steer so I used to let it go over the other side of the road and use the kerb to guide it round the bend! Ha, happy days
