flat to the mat:
Oh help me god lol . I named the crash to which Switchlogic was refering , that is all .
I know. But by mentioning pfft… well you seem to revel in it.
PS. Yes, I am being sarcastic.
I mean I could call you sick and desperate for even mentioning it… I’ll leave that to you though.
If you dont want to talk about stuff like this it is fine. Just dont particularly like being called sick and desperate.
on Parham airfield a guy was electrocuted when the bulker body touched 3phase wires tipping grain only a few yrs back .All the truck tyres melted .The farmers ended up in court
Strangely the worst accidents I have come across are not lorries or cars although I have seen a few over the years. I have witnessed 2 friends motorcycle accidents, one behind me and the other in front. Scary, however even more scary was driving from London to Scotland late at night (1988) when I witnessed the aftermath of Pan Am flight 103. Sheer devastation and a sight I will never forget. Absolutely horrible feeling went through me. Poor buggers. RIP
“Driving Related” - I nominate the 1955 Le Man disaster with it’s death toll of 84 people, including the French racing driver Pierre Levagh.
My Dad originally told me about this particular accident when I was a kid.
To this day I am paranoid about people overtaking me at speed, then pulling across the front of me, slowing sharply in doing so, Eg. to go into a Motorway Refuge from Lane 3…
I am instinctively covering the brake the moment I see someone behind me at speed - changing lanes…
“Rear Ending” at high speed was ultimately to blame for the Le Man disaster.
Saw a bloke wander into inside lane M1 north few years back lunchtime, just as I was passing on opposite side, look on his face when he realised what he’d done, split second before artic tipper sent him flying, bad can to cab crash coming out of garage a1m few years back, they then stopped hgv using garage
Almost had left arm cut off on rail piling job, west coast main line 2016
Bloke electrocuted working on rail overhead lines Brent cross
Rrv I was traveling in was hit by run away landrover rrv, doing 50mph when train limit was 20mph,down hill into tulloch station on snow, ice, almost derailed both vehicles into loch,no phone signal,11 guys very lucky that night

With all due respect, I hope i’m never in your vicinity, lol.

Lol…forgot to mention, bloke on open cast coal site, caught up in tractor PTO shaft, spinning round 10 minutes before anyone saw him,got asked as 17 year old kid …if I wanted to help find his ears?
Bloke asked other apprentice to spin tractor PTO shaft over, with engine stopper out, stopper was in , engine started, bloke got pulled in,leg amputated in yard
Farmers son disapeared, turned out he’d jumped on back of tractor, rotavator, driver never saw him, only found out what happened when they found her during finger in field,
Farmer decided cut chainsaw pants would last one more day, ended up crawling quarter mile home leg hanging off
Too much use?80’s were brutal
Horrible night watching flames travel back along a trailer and engulfing the car that had collided with the back and no one getting out of either vehicle.
Around 1979/81/83, was on the M5 by Sedgemoor services, though i think it was called Brent Knoll rest area in those days.
As i passed on the other carriageway was an accident happened presumably not long previously.
An artic preumably pulling out the rest area hit square up the back by another artic at what must have been a huge speed difference the cab no longer existed at all, the headboard of the trailer was wedged firmly into the back of the one in front, with both axles of the tractor gone straight under the trailer forming what looked like one 80ft trailer with 8 axles in the centre, that vision is one of many one can’t and shouldn’t forget, i still think from the pattern of the wheel centres of the 2 rear axles of that combo that the crushed cab had been a Mercedes tractor unit.
Another time i’m going north on the M6 by spaguetti, probably early 90’s, on the southbound wet slippery carriageway was an artic tipper with all its wheels locked still travelling at high speed heading straight into stationary traffic, what i can’t forget is the Rover 200 (R8) being pushed sideways on the front of that artic at speed, i actually locked eyes with the hopeless chap in that car for the couple of seconds as i passed by before the inevitable happened.
Yet another near Watford gap seeing the crumpled remnants of a car crushed to the size of a box between two lorries, that was probably the 80’s
You don’t forget these things, you hopefully learn a little each time that there but for the grace of God go any of us.
Don’t see such things so closely any more unless in the immediate aftermath because the emergency crews close the road both ways and/or block the view in some way.
2 I can think of.
My own lad,I got a call whist away to say he was in hospital, my Mrs had tried to call him and a paramedic answered his phone, so you can imagine the state she was in.
He was a back seat passenger 18 years old,.with a group of his mates.
Car going too fast actually took off on brow of hill, cut a telegraph pole in half and flipped.
My lad had no belt on and was thrown through back window landing on road.
Upshot was he was badly injured, but the shocker came that due to knock on head he could have some brain damage.
Luckily it only affected his memory, he’d start a sentence and forget where he was going with it half way through.
Luckily he made a full recovery and 16 years later holds down a good well paid job as a service manager at a garage…proud as ■■■■ of him btw.
Another about 4 years ago, I was first on scene near ny home, an rta, car had hit a truck full on, car was a mangled mess on it’s side, with engine in middle of road still smoking… ever forget the eeerie silence that day.
The truck driver, a young girl was in shock, so I told her to stay where she was when I checked she was ok.
Took one look at car thinking ‘‘Jeez H nobody is alive in that’’ … and to look in I would have had to climb up on the side of it, so decided I did not want to see what was in there.
Thing is when.a nurse who was passing by chance turned up, she heard a faint groan, there was still a young girl in there (front seat passenger) still alive. …she later died, 16 years old, her Grandad who I actually knew as it turned out was killed instantly.
To this ■■■■ day I still feel so bloody angry with myself for not climbing up and looking in that car to check ,.I could not have helped her, but I could have maybe given her some comfort and reassurance before the poor kid died.
Not my finest hour,.and I don’t think too good of myself for it.
Btw not a facebook attention seek excercise, …so please don’t comment,.I ain’t into all that crap.
