They said they have about 7 weeks work. It may be easier/cheaper to transfer people from a less busy site to a more productive site, rather than give all the temporary agency a 2 day induction worth 14 hours DCPC (which I’ve had and would have to pay back if I left before 12 months service). Like I said previous I’m still waiting on more details. I may be tempted to give it a try, nothing ventured nothing gained.

I know why they’ve asked me, it’s because no one else wants to do itIt’s a fantastic opportunity especially as I’ve only been at my current place for 3 weeks and would go down well with the bosses. I’d be down there 4 nights a week in a hotel and back home on my days off, I presume claiming the expenses back although I’m not certain how it would work. If I have to pay the initial outlay then I’ll have to give it a miss as I’m skint. Still waiting for more details.
Hmmm. Is it? If it’s such a great opportunity, why are they asking a newbie to do it and not one of the more experienced lads? Why aren’t the other lads that have been there a while not clamouring to do it if it’s so peachy? Why don’t they want to do it??!
I know what conclusion I would be drawing mate.
I know about this job. I’ve been asked to go to but can’t because I’m on holiday. In our depot they are asking every driver if they will go. Everything is billed to the company directly. They say they can’t get the drivers as its a new depot so are looking to cover it in house as its cheaper than agency and we know the job.
Love London - it’s like a Demolition Derby without (usually) the demolition bit.
I find drivers are far more forgiving if you ■■■■-up, and late lane changes and u-turns are part of the scene anyway, everybody does stunt work
Addison - Lee drivers, they all live in bungalows, nothing upstairs.

Well yes I’d say it it. For someone who’s only been driving HGV’s professionally for 3 weeks its some of that all important experience in places I’ve never been before. I might not get the chance to do it again. Whether it be good experience or bad experience is to be debated but it would be one of those things I could say I’ve done and would do again or wouldn’t do again etc. Might be different wagons to drive, a chance to make myself known, money to be earned etc.
Get your arse in London. it will keep you on your toes. I love driving in London even better in central

Stay up there mate, we don’t want another northern monkey tip toeing around the M25 because they’re no good in a crowd![]()
Don’t u mean crawling because u lot can’t drive!
It will ever make you or break you!!
But you will be better for the experience and £in!!!
Personally I don’t need the stress or hassle!!!
But for a newbie it’s a great learning curve!!!
Just don’t let them rush you and go at your own pace!!!
No worrys southern softies!!!
one rule… once inside the M25 forget any driving regs you,ve ever learnt and squeeze and push, constantly stick your middle finger out of the window, toot your horn at anything for no reason, never acknowledge a black cab, grow a pair of eyes in the back of your head for the mopeds who are like flies to poop and will surround you at every traffic lights.
apart from that its great
I up and moved down here in November last year. Don’t believe all you hear about lots of work though! If you don’t mind agency then yes there is plenty of advertised work, but very few companies seem to take on direct. Also, wages are not that much different to Manchester. Yes , you will hear of those drivers who earn £800 a week but thats not the norm. and renting down here is much more expensive! I won’t go back as have made a new life, but if you are looking for streets paved with gold then maybe prepare to be disapointed or hope you’re agency is telling the truth!!!

Im currently based at a depot in the north west and have been given the opportunity to work out of a depot around the Essex area (dont know where exactly yet) for a few weeks. I was just wondering what it’s like driving down there? Mainly whats it like driving around London. It will be store delivery day work. Will be all expenses paid. A chance to earn a good bit of wedge or best avoided?Thoughts please
just remember they drive on left.once inside the north and south circular take your pick on wot rules you drive to cause most of the others don’t seem to mind, good luck if you take it on

It’s a bit of temp work with my current employer, not a relocation
Thanks for the replies so far. I need to hear from my boss for more details especially financial wise, lets see what the week brings!

Either there’s not enough willing drivers to go around right now (Which is actually TRUE with the heatwave on, and plenty of folk off down the beach including moi!)
OR
They are trying to undercut the going rate for driving around London, which is about £13.50ph on the jobs I’ve been doing until Whitsun (midweek night runs)
I keep getting offered £11 all the time, and politely refuse to such an extent that the agencies in question will probably boot me before long.
Big deal - I’m snowed under with work from the two that remain, which kinda has a good ring to it doesn’t it?
London is no different than Manchester or Brum as far as I’m concerned. Loads of Traffic, Friday wailers, suicidal cyclists, and in this weather - skimpily dressed totty to stare at with your own sunglasses on, so they don’t realise that you’re seriously looking at giggles and jiggles from only a few feet away…
