Winter

Hi Harry.Up here they use sand from the ‘many’ quarries so it is not the same as salting [and its cheaper as a lot of the land is sand here]As i said it seems to be a recent thing.[maybe to save the trees]

After getting stuck sideways (don’t ask) across a big hill in France that was untreated once I carry salt and a shovel now. Was a brand new lorry too. Took me two hours of hammering the ice off the ground with a small hammer to save it. It was my own stupidity that got me there! So my advice is be cautious, if you don’t like the look of a road don’t go down it, and if fitted in snow and ice turn off the retarder, esp on a Scania

Edit, just seen there’s a debate about retarders. I’m sat on Lucys fence.

Can you see her garden ?

To be honest I’m looking the other way. Lady gardens are a bit scary

Dont follow a stobart lorry ffs, they have previous.

Just read above that Sweden is gritting the roads. They never used to, said the salt damaged the trees. Nothing was said about the trees damaging the skidding cars.

Salt is the Devils invention. Don’t ever talk about the ■■■■■■ thing. Sand on the other hand is fine !

2 weeks ago Road 77 from Saltdal Norway climbing that 10% hill up to the Swedish border 620hp doing it’s work. Would like to say the winter is here

2 days later on E10 close to Lödingen in Norway, lovely day for driving.

I use the retarder and exhaust brake all the time but I also play a lot with the tag axle and TC (traction control) is turned of most of the time.
Most important thing in the winter is to Load the truck right. Try to get as much weight as possible on the truck 26t or what the limit is then leave the rest for the triple. May it be only 10t, doesn’t mater it will follow after as long as the truck weighs more.
Well greased fifth wheel is also important for the steering. I do it several times a week.

Since I drive to Norway I carry 7 chains with me. Never needed to use more than 2 but anyway learn how to use them! In the autumn I put a tire in the tire machine and test so every chain fits perfectly. Some may have rusted or needs to be shortened since they have stretched and become to long. A Chain shouldn’t take more than 5minutes to put on after you pulled the handbrake!

LOL , can get into all sorts of bother with those things

Worse still being my trip into Gimpland tomorrow , one drop in Carmen then dump out in Winnipeg ( how appropriate ), if I haven’t posted by Wedsnesday send in the Feds

Where do you drop in Carmen, I run through there on the way from the yard to the TransCanada, apart from a grain bin there doesn’t seem much else there.

Are there any benefits from picking up one of those hitch-hiker type things?

Purely to preserve the warmth, obviously

Driving in Sweden in the winter is a walk in the park. Drama queen…

Hutterite colony out in the boonies 15 kms South of Sperling ,my first visit .Did another of their places at Hidden Valley MB on Monday afternoon , during the 40 minutes I was there they managed to excavate a 6ft trench across the driveway , thanks.Got some very basic directions through another valley ,some fields and a wood ,along some well dodgy tracks back to civilization .I genuinely really like these guys and admire their lifestyle but sometimes they pound on the patience button ,plus I’d never trust any of them with a penny of my money .

BTW, welcome to winter

Wtf do they do with gas?

Few cans of spray on tyre grip and shovel. Jump leads are a must as well, cold kills batteries and a cold cab with no lights isn’t fun. Good sleeping bag is godsend in that scenario too. Some method to charge mobile that isn’t the lighter socket.

Quite a few around your region have some pretty advanced laser cutting shops /metalworks which require nitrogen , other colonies use it for freezing meat products . Their workshops are always immaculate , and the equipment is second to none and always paid for , very shrewd business people . That truck and trailer lot at Macgregor are the Huts  .

I know they have cnc machines and do some pretty nifty metalwork, so that makes sense.
