Will the DVLA revoke my HGV entitlement? [Merged]

I have 2 prolapsed discs and cracked vertebrae. The DVLA were informed by my doctor and because of the medication I’m on (Morphine patches) I got my licence revoked. According to DVLA it’s not my physical capabilities it’s the meds I take which was the reason I lost my licence. Since I’m on the meds for life according to my consultant and every other doctor I’ve seen since it looks like my driving days are over.

Thanks for the replies and advice about the DVLA.
I will keep them out of it.
I am on painkillers which are hit and miss.
Had cortisone injections which are ok but am not allowed to have too many for some unbeknown reason so the next move is surgery.
“Multi Level Problems” my report says.
One of the discs has trapped a nerve and that’s what is causing the pain.
So it’s a case of one day at a time and see what happens after the op.
Been thinking of hanging the keys up and this might be the final push I need

I’m on a tempory licence for a year. Had a ruptured disc in lower back. 6 months off work, on morphine etc. Tried to go back to work, had back to work interview etc, had a start date for next day. Work then decided I had to inform DVLA. So did, just to get back to work. Took them 3 months to get back to me. All the time work on my back. On temp licence till Feb, and disc has gone again. Only staying off the morphine coz my manager has said he’ll get HR involved and tell DVLA. So now can’t decide whether or not to do C+E before my next medical and poss lose a grand or so, or wait to see what the useless plebs say… Hence my post earlier in year.

You could ask to speak with Pain management this is how I found out about my back sorted medication out they dont cause any problems had injections in shoulder & lower back has helped a little with pain although they do kill nerve to disc I also have physio to do every day

Know a driver who wife had a similar op to you although she dont drive he may be able to say from the other side

If you could find anything out I’d really appreciate it.
I’m a bit terrified of it all to be honest and as for driving, I think it’s going to be my choice to pack it in.
Too much ■■■■■■■■ and red tape.
The DCPC has killed it for me.

How’s the new job, Steve? Bet the potholes in Bunkers Hill play havoc with your neck…
…I might be seeing you around there soon.

Thanks

This is getting stupid now.
Had x - rays, MRI and CT scans.
In the meantime I am eating prescription painkillers to numb the pain.
Still driving a tipper in a quarry.
Finding other work is nigh on impossible. Perhaps I am too honest but no one will look at me when I say on my CV or at an interview that I’m going to need time off.
Trunking is the right choice but it’s hard when I just face brick walls.
Home life is beginning to strain now too.
Seen my specialist/surgeon.
Cortisone then surgery on 3 discs plus bone fusion.
A lovely bloody start to 2015 !

Hope yours were better.

Look on the bright side mate at least you’re working, I got my licence revoked and job went shortly after it :frowning: Now I’m medically retired and getting about a quarter of what I used to earn. Being stuck at home and living in constant pain and with limited mobility it was only a matter of time before my home life suffered. It did big big time… Now I’m living in a single room on my own :frowning:
Have been told my operation will be at least another year because of NHS cutbacks and even with the operation I’ll be on meds rest of my life so I’ll never get any form of licence at all…ever, not even a car licence.
I really hope you don’t end up like me and wish you all the best for the future.
