Thank you for the Wigan Tippers picture, their depot and yard is at Richmond Hill,
in Pemberton, 400 yards from where I live. John, you are a man of many pictures,
I would like to find images of the lorries of England Tubes at Wigan. The company
was a T.I. ( Tube Investment ) member, and its associate firm was Markland Scowcroft
from Bromley Cross, Bolton. Both companies became T I Markland Ltd. I started there
as a HGV Driver early in 1974, driving a 32 ton Atkinson artic, TED 141H. After about
a year, I spent another year in the Sales Office, then 2 years as Traffic Manager.
On April 1st 1978, I started my own small business, I bought a Bedford TK flat lorry
and my former employer was my initial source of work. I have attached an image of
the T.I. logo, which for many years would be seen on well known products such as
TI Creda, TI Russell Hobbs, and TI Raleigh Cycles. Cheers, Ray.

Hi Dean, Thank you for the Wm.Gaskell picture, they were based at Crawford
Village near Upholland, not far from Wigan. Their main source of work was from
the Heinz factory, not far from M6 J26. Several ex Robert Baillie drivers ended
up at Gaskells, including Harry Jones, Roy Sumner, and Dave Brookwell RIP .

Cheers, Ray Smyth.

I have just received a picture of the last new Atkinson Borderer, YTE 488N, that T.I. England Tubes bought toward
the end of 1974. The workshop foreman mechanic, Cyril Kay and I had just finished applying the signwriting decals
to the cab. A chap called Geoff Dixon drove this machine from new, I think it had a 220 Rolls Royce under the bonnet.
My brother in law Jim sent it to me, he was a driver at James Wilkinson & Son, and I am certain that it is my picture.
Sorry about the picture quality, but I think its better than no picture.

Ray Smyth.

Not too sure if it’s improved, but it does look a little clearer ?

Regards John.

John, You have done it again, thank you so much. Your image shows the main colour of blue very well. Cheers, Ray.

Hi Dean, I remember Clarington Coach & Haulage very well. I believe that their main source of regular work
was from Gullick Engineering who manufactured " Pitprops ", roof supports for the underground work of the
many coalmines of The National Coal Board, and also privately owned mines. Cheers, Ray Smyth.

Hi Dean, I imagine that they would have operated coaches as well as lorries, perhaps before I emigrated
to Wigan in 1966. I am a bit of a " Mixed Bag " or even a " Dolly Mixture ", On my Dads side of the family,
my Great Grandad is from Newry in Co. Down, Northern Ireland, and Great Grandma is from Isle Of Man,
Manx origin. My mother was a West Country lady from Bath in Somerset. I am a Half Breed.  :sunglasses:

This company, Trans-Freight-Europa was owned by Trevor Ratcliffe who later started Truckmart.
Their operation was based at Pimbo Industrial Estate, Skelmersdale, beside the M58 Motorway.
My long time friend, Harry Jones, ex Robert Baillie, worked for Trevor in the 1980s.

Cheers, Ray.

Hi great shot heading up towards Birdlip on the A420 . Reed Corrugated also had a sites in Monmouth and Lydbrook ,maybe that is where this IIO had loaded ,regards Keith

Thank you for the Reed info Keith, I had forgotten about the Lydbrook and Monmouth Reed sites.
I remember going up Birdlip many times when I was heading to areas of Somerset, Wiltshire, and
Dorset. I wonder is it still the same as when I used it regularly. Meanwhile, Best wishes for Christmas,

Best regards, Ray Smyth.
