Im sure the actor Jeremy Irons was in an anti lorry action group in the Oxfordshire area villages.
The Lgv route suggested by the council , to use Melbury Abbas, is pants for any size truck.
The sign is for south bound only.
But if a wagon comes north, when it is not supposed to, it is game over.
On the bends on the hill, there is no room for a car and a truck to pass, let alone two trucks.
When two vehicles meet on the bends, there are about 20 cars behind me, and 20 cars behind the truck going northbound.
Some old fool has put up a homemade sign with statistics on hours lost due to strannded trucks, and how many times a year it happens.
Not sure if the old fools information is entirety accurate, as I never see anybody by the house, he must make up duff information for the purposes of fake news.
He updates it every day, it has number of blockages due to hgv, longest time taken to unblock and the average time and this weeks total. I pass it every day.
I pass through here few nights a week without seeing anyone, once ive been stuck with another rigid not wanting to move. Obviously this is night time, wouldnt want to try it in the day.
I’ve given up on Melbury - I just use the 36 and 338 to get back to Poole - unless I’m in a Landrover etc. And I’m paid by the hour!
The one way north and the other south doesn’t work because the northbound (sorry it’s got to be said) tipper boys tend to ignore it anyway.
I come through from the north bound way.(Not a tipper mind) haha. Those tipper drivers are mental on the A36 all in a convoy and always way too far over other side of road coming towards you!
If I recall correctly, whenaworra lad the road through Abingdon was the A34 which proceeded south over the railway at Steventon, past Harwell and what used to be a small industrial area called Milton.Perhaps new traffic management systems have made it more difficult than it was.

It appears the Abingdon nimbys don’t want juggernaughts thundering through their village
You say that like it’s a strange thing.
Abingdon is a town not a village
And you REALLY don’t want to take an artic through the middle of Abingdon as it literally was designed for horse and cart…
Shame it’s part of the test route then…

So when 2 trucks have a late night coming together on that bend in Marcham or a 44t decides to carry on up the A415 to the A40 and has a dip in the river by the 2 pubs ,
What happens then ?
The night redirection wanted to send you through Marcham. I ignored those signs and went on to the end of the A420. Ended up in front of the stuff going through Marcham so guess they did have problems
