Why did British Leyland fail?

Dave the Renegade:
I vote for Carryfast to be a panelist on ‘’ Question Time ‘’ extended edition. :bulb:

Extended for how long Dave, week, fortnight or even a month!

So there we have it , it was WW2 that caused BL to fail and not the TL12 the short stroked little …

It’s a bit more complicated than that.It was the damage caused to the economy,by the combined costs of WW1 and the resulting WW2.Together with the double dealing involved in the European post WW2 recovery aid plan which largely contributed to the lack of investment cash available to all sectors of British industry at the time in question.Which therefore explains many of the financial issues which contributed in large part to the failure of not only Leyland Group but also much of UK industry.

The ‘double dealing’ in question arguably also explaining government politically instigated flawed designs and the handover of credible designs to foreign competitors, being forced onto Leyland’s management against their better judgement.

FFS.

If only BL had used the DD engine throughout their range, and “CF” had been appointed Engineering Director they would still be in business and a World class manufacturing outfit exporting to all corners of the globe. :open_mouth:      Bewick.

This subject could be applied to most automotive,or engineering companies that disappeared over the years. Grow and develop or go under.
Cheers Dave.

To be fair the truck division probably would have been out of the frame a lot sooner if they’d have settled on the AEC V8 and the 500 and the 760/TL12.Instead of using the 8v71 and the Rolls Eagle and the 14 litre ■■■■■■■■■■ the Crusader and T45. :bulb:

They could have fitted them in Sherpas too

Sherpas could have Gardner’s or Triumph engines…

dave docwra:
Sherpas could have Triumph engines…

They actually had the Rover V8 fitted.

Only police and ambulance spec I believe.

So there we have it, as I said pages, weeks, months, and years ago there are countless reasons why British Leyland failed.

There will be a few more pages yet Graham, I reckon at least half a dozen off CF alone

Here’s an idea. Let’s start a thread on 'Why Did Bedford Fail?", then when that is exhausted for Bedford substitute, Seddon-Atkinson, or Foden, or ERF, or Dodge, or Commer. We should be able to keep going for a good few years to come.  :unamused:

27 pages on why the v8 detroit POWERED TM failed due to retarded hauliers before we get on to anything else

All vehicle manufacturers fail or pack up eventually, to be superseded by newer better vehicles from new kids on the block. :unamused:

then you could go on too the british motor cycle industry

Or anything that’s British that hasn’t been sold off yet
