Who thinks tramping is a single mans job

she knows a woman that does it and guess what :unamused: she is single :exclamation: and of course woman drivers are not like that   :open_mouth: she says they probabley have to do because their husbands can not get a job wtf :imp: :imp:

I think you need to give your girlfriend the heave ho!.
If you stay with her she’ll either end up running your life, or you’ll split up further down the line probably when she stopped you doing a few more things you want to do.

Look at this the other way, you have a relationship with a good woman and yet you’d rather spend the week sleeping in a tin can, thats basically it in a nutshell.

Whats wrong with finding a good paying lorry job thats gets you home every night, they do exist, and then enjoying a proper life with that good woman and being in a proper bed every night.

Needs must, if you’re in financial straits then you like all of us will have to work all hours God sends to get things back on an even keel, so maybe a temporary period working away is necessary which a right minded woman would understand, but its not something i would ever advise a bloke to do long term who wants to find and keep one of the increasingly rare good hearted kind natured women that are still about.

Years of being away all week often leads to strained realationships when ou are together, heard it a thousand times from those who tramp, even known blokes sleep in the lorry at the depot not wanting to go home, what a sad existence.

I’ve done me share of nights out over the years though avoided at all costs and hated every one, soon as that third night out appeared at the last long term job my notice went in.

No nights out now, none planned so only if something goes really pear shaped would i get stuck, you can stick 'em where the sun don’t shine, nothing beats being welcomed home every evening by a loving warm woman.

If you want the single life, then go for it, but don’t be surprised if you find yourself single again in short order.

The alternative views here of tell 'er about the money leave me cold, what are these blokes walking wage packets?

I wouldn’t want to spend my life sleeping in a layby if the truth be told even if I did earn Ā£100 more per week :exclamation: :exclamation: :unamused:

Just poped in lymm 4 a quick brew and my god… The women here trying to get in my cab… Every bloody day lol!

I’d say it was a lot easier for her to mess about rather than you.
Ask your self how much you want a tramping job, and how much do you love your missis, and what is it you do in the week at home which you really need to be there for!
If you don’t try it ul never know, and it is better to have tryed something and not liked it rather than regret not trying it!

Although I agree tramping isn’t for everyone, even some of those doing it, but in some parts of the Country day work doesn’t pay that well and the jobs are thin on the ground, but that’s not really the OP’s question.

He’s been offered the job and for what ever reason he obviously is interested in taking it.

But his Girlfriend doesn’t trust him and seems to be more willing to listen and believe her friends who probably know nothing about truck driving, just creating mischief.
And really is that a basis for a long term relationship if every time he wants to do something he’s stopped because his girlfriend believes rumour mongering friends. ?

She sounds like a right [zb]ing nightmare. I’d go tramping and switch your phone off.
I’m with the same women that i met in 1987, and i’ve been away for up to six weeks sometimes. We have 3 children, and i have loads to talk about when i get back. and loads of catching up to do.
How many times have you been out for a meal and sat just looking at each other with nothing to talk about?

I’M with you phil, I’m 58 now, driven all my life, still with the same woman for 40 years now and I tramp when I can, homecomings are great and lots to talk about, sometimes taken her with me on trips to Portugal and south of France, can’t beat it in my books.

Sapper

My OH used to go away for a week at a time and it was never a problem. Another womans forum I go on, one of the ladies there has been married for over 30 years and he’s been on for the same firm virtually all the time, doing four nights away, sometimes 5 and they are sound as a pound.

Way I look at it, you can take a job you don’t want and know you are going to be miserable or you can go and do what you want to do and see how it pans out with the girlfriend. I wouldn’t want my Oh to spend his life doing something that made him miserable, presume you wouldn’t want your girlfriend to be unhappy in her job - try putting it like that to her.

If you take it your life will be a nightmare but at the same time it sounds as she has trust issues. At that rate if you get a local job and get held up your life will be a nightmare.
Speaking from experience here.

Or…this thread is a wind up :bulb:

OP breaks his tnet virginity with a post about earning more stacking shelves in Morrisons :unamused:

your a good moerator are nt you  i first asked about s j bargh on jan 09 13 so how can i be breaking my tnet virginity by asking about this .i have been tramping since i was 21 now 45 took some time off too look after my kids when my wife died 10 years ago last christmas now with a differant woman and kids are 19 and 18 and have their own lives and i want to go back to what i like doing before i get to old.so why would this be a wind up   :unamused:

tramping is all I know.
the work is very varied.
the money is good.
the wife loves me being away.
the kids love seeing me at the weekend.
and the 1 fundamental thing you’ve got to remember at the weekend is.
the ā– ā– ā–  is great and on a plate.

Like I said, in your first post on the thread you mention stacking shelves, then you mention drivers shagging around, seems a bit like a trolling post to me, but everyone’s entitled to their opinion

being a modern day man, the only advice i would give ya bud is" it takes a good woman to be a lorry drivers wife (girlfriend)". because i don’t care what anybody says, after a while the loneliness will get ya both after a while, depending on how long you"ll be away, other than that if you want to have a crack at it then go for it, i’ve been tramping for nearly 20yrs and wouldn’t have it any other way, and because me and my wife are both used to it now she says "it does her head in if i come home mid week because it gets in the way of her routine… :unamused:

I’ve had this combination of conversations on more than one occasion…

HM. ā€œHello Burt, how are you?ā€

Burt. ā€œGreat, I’m coming off the road though, the wife says we aren’t spending enough time together.ā€

Six months later…

HM. ā€œHello Burt, how are you? I thought you were coming off the road?ā€

Burt. ā€œI did, the wife walked out on me two months later, said she couldn’t handle me being there all the time.ā€
