? What is that? Ummm surely you weren’t running over the 60mph limit and over ten hrs driving?
I always thought you said you had a good job trunking?
Or did you only do the runs in the dry in the summer?
Yes, it was a different world then, and loads of people were “at it” but that doesn’t make it good or better than today.
I am not setting myself up as a paragon of virtue, here, but let’s try not to say that everything was better back in the day. Some things were, and some things, were not.
Running a trunk of over 500miles on a January night is not one of the better things.
I’m equally impressed by the ability to maintain an average speed between 200mph (10 hour drive) and 222mph (9 hour drive)
Must have a really good Flux Capacitor
In those days you should be able to remember general motorway truck speeds and the ability of road and traffic conditions to take them.No need to go much if any over 60 mph and didn’t drop much below that either.Except for some of the worst hills.
There were still one or two old Harrison’s drivers at Feltham when I started they came from the Highbury depot.Ron was one I think Sonny was also ex Harrisons Highbury.
Carryfast became UPS while I was there including the Mill Street depot and the other Carryfast depots, from then.Dont know anything about a Shaw Cross. It was still Mill Street when I left.
