What wind speed would you risk it at?

If i saw half a dozen trucks/trailers blown over already, i would do a finger-wind test…and if its ok carry on, if my wet finger dried quickly, i would of course pull over, but only at the nearest services.

a major thing is speed the faster you go the longer it will take you to react when hit by a freak crosswind, gap in between buildings, gateway along a hedge etc

Why? Your reaction time will be exactly the same whether travelling at 10mph or at 110mph. The only difference will be the distance covered whilst reacting. It could be argued that a lorry passing a gap at 56mph will be less exposed to a sudden gust from a gap beside it than one travelling at 30mph.

Not having a pop btw, but I am trying to get the point across that it’s a total lottery in high winds as to who goes over and who doesn’t. Tippers, tankers, flatbeds and curiously double deckers (lower C of G) tend to be less affected but there really doesn’t seem to be much rhyme or reason as to which vehicles will be blown over. I’m not a big believer in people screaming that you should slow down in high winds as I don’t think going over at 56 will feel a lot different to going over at 46.

That’s not me being a Billy big balls btw, more an observation of years of driving in adverse weather. Maybe I’ve just been lucky.

+1 Maoster. Last year when I worked at Canute, one of the lads on nights got blown over. The picture is on Google somewhere and the driver in question is a very experienced and sensible driver.

Apparently one really powerful gust just simply turned him over.( Empty curtainsider trailer ).

I too have been known to do the finger test to see how wet it is and whether to carry on or not :v:

is dipper dave off duty tonight or what…

Bloody windy season again. Had fun last night with some of the gusts but all in all it wasnt too bad. I was lucky i had a single on my way back up the road last night. Much better in the wind than an empty decker.

yes dipper dave was off that night, i was just deputising…but it seems he deputised 2.
