What were you doing 40 years ago

Kicking ■■■■ out of my mothers insides.

Och Happy your just a boy. Jan.73 saw me with my brand new Foden S39 belonging McMurdo’s painted and lettered by Andersons of Crossmichael and instead of leaving the cab interior in it’s normal grey they decided to paint it Tangerine!!!, I know what your thinking but honestly it looked really well and loads of drivers commented on how it looked so much brighter and airey. How I wish I had carried a camera in those days. Eddie.

hiya,
Yes Fred I knew that, and that Cliff passed away a couple of years ago could not
remember what motor Angus had though, thanks for the info, I didn’t rate those
Mercs though they couldn’t live with my old ■■■■■■■ engined Atki and it hit me
hard when I got that new Scania 80 thing I chucked it soon after that would have
jumped at Plantam’s Scania 110 though.

Hullo Harry,
Yes both were there at that time. Cliff Leader was the Boss Man and his Son Garry was in the Garage. Cliff was one of the best Bosses you could ever wish to work for. Angus Suttie was driving for M.A.T. at that time too, he was also a great bloke to work with. Cliff left to take Command of, I think it was McGreggors in Bradford. He passed away a couple of years ago now R.I.P. To a real Gentleman. The last time I saw Angus was about 25 years ago, on a Dover Ferry, he had gone to Milton Keynes with M.A.T. When they moved from Hull. He had left them after that and was doing Italy for somebody that wanted him to one hit Italy and one hit back, he looked absolutely terrible, worn out. I have never seen him since and have not even heard of him either.

On 1973 I was on Brs working on a contract for Camping Gaz, and another great period of my life, reasonable wages, plenty of nights out, even when I took the job, I had my class one rate. I was one of the first to have a black & white portable TV, I wired a plug from one battery, I was in hull and watched Rangers play Bruge. Potblack took a bit of effort to pick out the colours.

December 18th 1973 I had to attend an inquest. Three weeks previously I was involved in a serious accident and the hearing seemed to go on for ages. It didn’t help when the deceased wife and son were staring at me all the time and, although the accident wasn’t my fault, and the verdict was “accidenal death” I felt terrible for the next few weeks especially being on top of Christmas.
On a lighter note, talking of Christmas, I wish everyone on here a good one and a happy 2014. Best regards to all Haddy, Gt.Yarmouth.
