he potato place near Glen Eagles would most likely be Fimm Potatoes near Muthill its on the site of the old railway station. When the G8 was on all of the sheds and warehouses in the vicinity were full of police vehicles, must have been the most profitable crop they have ever had.T
Havnt had a really awful day but there have been a couple of times where the lorry has almost been left at the side of the road with the keys down the drain.

Dont think it helps being the end of the week, sounds like the pressure the office put on you didnt do you any favors.
I think it was a couple of years back driving a DAF 26T Rigid on multi drop.
Started at 0500 to do collections then loaded up at 0800 in the yard, got to first drop at a local food company at about 0930, backed onto the bay and it took over 90 minutes to offload the single pallet I had. 30 Minutes later they Came out to inform me that they’d rejected the pallet and they’d put it on shortly. Total time in there about 3hrs.
The next drop was to a friend of the TM, He’d said “It’s a bit tight but you’ll get it down there ok” I arrive and there’s cars all the way down both sides of the street, no way you’d get anything bigger than a smart car down there. I ring the TM and he says “Look mate, I’ve promised her it’ll be there today, just wheel it down the road on the pallet truck and she’ll bung you a tenner for helping out” Stupid me I block the road with the truck and start looking for Number 6…there’s me staring at 74…72…70 Oh smeg it’s about 600 yards down the road. I just get on with it and trundle this stupid pallet of turf down the middle of the road when the pallet truck decides to pack up, falls to it’s lowest level and wont pump up. I literally have to drag and scrape it to the front of the house, miserable bint there asks me to carry all the turf through the house into the garden, I politely decline apparently foregoing any monies and spend the next 5 minutes dragging the dead pallet truck back up the road.
Drop number 3 (of 25ish) and it’s about 2:30pm. Next delivery is a small boutique shop in a little one way system square, which happens to be the entire heart of the small town, about 70% of all traffic goes through here. Turning round one of the 90 degree corners I have to shunt it as there’s a car stupidly dropping someone off right on the corner and taking ages about it getting a buggy out.
Half way round and exactly at the moment I’m 45 degrees across the road I hear a loud hiss and all of a sudden my brakes jam on solid, all the air gone out of the tanks and I’m stuck.
I try everything I can to get it moving but It just wont budge or build air.
Within 5 minutes the police are there (on their way to another call) asking me to move it, I explain the situation and they really aren’t happy. They ring my boss who assures them recovery is on it’s way.
This he proceeds to lie about for the next 5 SODDING HOURS in which time I have managed to block the Police, a Fire engine and loads of traffic off, got shouted at by many and asked so many times “Can’t we just push it out the way”
Eventually the police get annoyed and say it’ll have to be towed, boss says one last time that help is on it’s way, by now it’s nearly 8pm and the boss’s mate “Dave” turns up in a scratty sprinter with a toolbox and overalls. He manages to bodge the broken system back together and I finally roll into the yard at 10pm after having lost air pressure every time I’ve stopped for more than 5 seconds, then had to wait for it to build back up, boss asks me to come in next day at 4am to help with a transfer between depots as the trunk has broken down too. At this point I tell him I won’t be coming back at all, that was my 3rd breakdown in as many weeks in their badly maintained fleet and I’d had enough of their penny pinching while him and the other managers drove around in Aston Martins and Range Rovers.
I’ve seen their trucks broken down on at least 5 separate occasions since then, all badly maintained ex Salvesen stuff. I think on average a driver lasts there about 4 months.
But hey, it’s all good experience eh?
There’s only a few off us were just a family firm and you know when you work that little bit harder it gets appreciated and then expected! Made a rod for my own back but I’ve been kept In a job 8 years so its not all bad my biggest daily gripe is more the being talked to and shouted at like I’m a simpleton by customers road users etc gets my back up like today I’m well educated good gcse’s 2 As and a B at a level I drive a lorry because I’m a lorry geek and like driving them not because I’m too thick to do anything else I had this conversation today with a pric k in range rover because he wore a tie he could talk to me like ■■■■■ ■■■■ me I’m ranting it really wasn’t one off my better days roll on tommo lol

Its days like that, that make life worth living
just when you thought it cant get any worse , revenge of the DAF … taillift refuses to move , breakdown comes out to fix it , and find its summat they should have fixed when they fitted new batteries 2 days ago …
finish delivery , turn onto A19 get the pedal down , …BANG …temperature shoots to red …
pull over and ring office , oh just ring the dealer back out … 2 hrs later driveable … but cant use fridge , not much use when your doing "refridgerated haulage "
arrrrrrrghhhh

That was the place - I was trying to remember the name! Nice bloke running it - really starting to enjoy going up to Scotland. It might be a long slog, but the people are great when you get there, and the scenery really takes some beating.
