I was at crofton truckfest as drifield was cancelled due to them being unable to do it at the show ground where they usually held it in yorkshire. I was getting pictures of the trucks and I got a snap of one of the reed transport (bulk tippers) trucks, this rather mature woman old enough to be my mum posed infront of the pickup truck next to it, saying to take a snap then after going for a ‘ride’ in the 143 scania. :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: I kindly declined and went on my way :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

I’ve heard of taking one for the team but I definitely didn’t love the team that much :open_mouth: :open_mouth: The bad parts of looking a lot older than I am :open_mouth:

I put some pics to the ones you might not know.

First truck I ever been inside Jelcz series 300:

First truck ever I’ve been riding on was Star 200:

but I had a ride before in a Robur, but it was in van body, so I am not sure if it counts:

First commercial vehicle I ever drove was Polonez Truck:

First commercial vehicle I was paid to drive was Ford Courier.

First bigger van I ever drove was Nysa:

First truck I ended up in an accident in was DAF LF and it was the most stupid accident ever: I was stopped on the red light, and some grandma reversed his little hyundai from his garage under my body between rear axle and that bar. When I pulled forward, I did some really nasty damage to his rear, but what was worse, he nearly had a heart attack.

I never been to truckfest and none of my granddads were driving trucks (but two of my uncles were rally drivers and I spent fair share of my childhood riding on the back of thr a-groupe Fiat 126p. I am not sure if that counts:

First truck I ever drove was one of these, I had my driving lessons on 11 tonner like that:

and I passed my test on 18 t Atego.

First truck I ever drove myself was a ex-military Star 266

(a friend of a friend bought that on ex-army sale with a workshop body hoping to convert it to the motorhome and do his class C in meantime, but he give up after he saw the fuel consumption and I was asked to drive it to a new buyer.

First truck I had my night out was MAN 19 (I am not sure, I mean the one with the previous cab to TGA).

The oldest truck I ever drove was a 60’s fire engine build on Star 25:

First (and so far, last) truck I went off the road was DAF CF.

Heaviest one was also DAF CF, an 8 wheleer tipper.

Smallest truck ever I was riding it was

Hm… obviously I have too much time on my hands as well

Some cool pics there of the trucks across the pond. Certainly haven’t heard of any of the top ones before

But it’s good to see that there are people who remember. Even if there is too much time on folks hands!!  Although I’m sick of being at home, back to how it was last year when I left my last college :open_mouth:

Cheers

Jonny :sunglasses:

My first rigid was an oldish Renault delivering carpet, they gave me a young lad as a drivers mate who weighed about 7 stone dripping wet, worked like a Trojan, and for a bit of added excitement managed to get himself pulled out of the back of the truck along with a roll of carpet, to be caught in yours truly’s arms! (sternly admonished not to pull that stunt again  )
My first artic was a 440hp MAN 3 days after passing my test, first load to Tescos Welham Green, second load to Tescos Weybridge, the start of what was to be for a good few months, an almost perpendicular learning curve.
