Cheers, yeh I’m gonna have to be careful doing checks because to start off I’m covering holidays etc so doing lots of different jobs, and using lots of drivers trucks. I might be a newbie I’m wise enough to know I could be an easy one to pass a bit of damage onto.

If you don’t have one already, a spare taco roll. Or a tacho roll if you’re not hungry! Not got one. TBH I know nothing about how to work a tacho. Working the tacho and getting my head round the driver hours laws is worrying me more than the prospect of driving.
You could try this YouTube vid:-

You could have a quiet word with a driver tomorrow. I did. It’s no crime not to know stuff, but you’re much better off getting someone to actually show you stuff. Expect to mess it up a couple of times then forgive yourself…

I’ve got an experienced driver going out with me for the first week, so it should all be ok. Also I’ve never actually driven an artic having passed in a w&d so that’ll be interesting. The people I’m going to work for know all this though so it should be alright.

Foam ear plugs noisy laybys and trailer change overs at truckstops.
Hand gel sterilser, who knows what is lurking on that steering wheel.
Fabreeze to keep cab fresh.
Clipboard to keep paperwork tidy.

Up date it on the net of possible, most top company’s allow free up dates… but really think a truck sat nav is a great idea along side your truck atlas…
After asking on truck net which truck sat is best I bought a tomtom 5150 pro truck, great bit of kit, word of advice, don’t by from the net, look at the cheapest price endorsed through Amazon that’s guaranteed through Amazon and take the info into halfords because they will price match…I saved over £50 and at least you know you get the real deal at halfords, there are copies out there… if you buy a truck sat nav update it before you take it out… good luck !

Cheers, I will look into getting one when my ship comes in, but that won’t be any time soon.
Tbh I reckon I will be ok with my old one just as a guide as I’ll use my map to plan the route and I know the basic routes around UK from going to the football in my younger days before Sat Navs were invented. It’s more for built up areas that I’ve found sat navs a god send & for average speed checks as it gives an accurate mph reading. That said with weight restrictions/low bridges etc I know I will have to be careful.
