Noticed some shops seem to accept Euros nowadays, usually in Tourist areas or perhaps around Dover etc.
Saw one in York last year with a sign “we accept euros”
you try paying with a Pole I bet they say “NO”

That’s what I did recently after one shopkeeper in London refused to accept my Scottish pounds note. He chased after me and suddenly changed his mind and was happy to agree that Clydesdale Bank is genuine organisation
Quite within his rights to refuse, Scottish banknotes are not legal tender in England.
Many places accept them in payment but they are not legal tender.
If he had decided not to accept the note in payment and you left with the goods you would have been stealing.
I heard that they are UK Parliament accepted paying tender, but you just prompted me to check it, and they can be used only by mutual agreement of the sides involved. TIL, thanks.

Correct of course but it’s annoying when they won’t take them. It’s not a problem for them to take them as they’re bankable anywhere.
But you can take it to your advantage. For example Polish exchange shops buy and sell Scottish notes at someteen groszes (polish equivalent of pences) less, and Northern Irish are even 20 gr less than English pounds. So every time I need to change pounds into złotys, I make sure I have English ones, every time I am doing it other way round, I ask them for Northern Irish or Scottish ones Every little helps!

That’s true. The only places I was refused Scottish or Irish notes were Pakistani/Indian shops/petrol stations. I am yet to meet Polish shop that does not accept them As for exchange - if they are stupid enough to trade them at lower price, good for me. Selling them English, buying Scottish, then back to Scotland, exchange Scottish to English 1:1, back to Poland, repeat the circle… Financial Perpetuum Mobile!
A burger van in halifax refused Scottish money. Next time I was passing, I went and ordered two burger and chips. Asked for salad cream and brown sauce on the burgers and over the chips. You sure? He asked. Yes please!!
I handed over my Scottish £20 note which he refused.
“oh well tough ■■■■” I left him with two unsaleable burgers and chips!
You could pay with northern Irish notes in the pubs on paisley road West. Often used to get strange looking notes in your change on the way to the football!
Scottish notes are legal tender as they all say pounds sterling regards the n.irland notes i was told they are not legal tender as they only say pounds with no mention of sterling, not sure if its true just wat i was told

No they’re not, technically B o E notes aren’t legal tender! BUT they are legal currency. In England and Wales, Scottish & Irish notes can be used if both parties agree, however peeps are on thin ground by refusing to accept them as payment, as the Scottish banks must pay the bearer anyhow.
As for the garage making a fuss over the 2l, I never had a problem years ago filling up my 1l flask for my camping stove, used to get some funny looks though as I cycled up to the pump.

Thats why I put the

my mate once went to get some juice in a 5L plastic jerry can, opens the lid, puts the nozzle in, pulls the trigger, dopey ■■■■■■ didn’t notice he’d picked up the one we’d cut the bottom off so as to use as a funnel
his cat like reactions meant he had to go in and pay less than a quid
I’d be wondering what else was up with the vehicle and how far can you go without needing to fill up again. Also, is there a spare can in the boot, if not I’d have bought one and filled the ■■■■■■ up.
Very strange this topic came up today
I just had a nightmare about ths subject before I woke this morning. It’s not gonna help you but I will relay my terrible dream… I drove to a petrol station with my Honda Pilot and waited because two twonks were filling up a truck of some sort, they pulled foreward and hit the building, I went to fill up and inserted my card in a very tiny card reader which was so small I had to put reading glasses on to see the buttons etc, started to fill then saw in my horror it was pumping diesel and I had pushed the wrong button I went to the service station manager who told me he was only filling in but gave me an electric pump and can with a syphoning line. Together we pushed my Honda to a petrol pump but the electrical lead didn’t reach the socket, as he went to get an extension cord a removal truck started reversing into the place and narrowly missed my car, I shouted and he pulled foreward, the guy returned with the lead and we hooked up. The removal truck then started reversing again, hit the corner of my car, then the suport for the canopy… The whold roof came down on the car and the building
Ony a dream but I expect a dream analyst to tell me why
