I flick between radio 2, radio 3, and radio 4. But mostly radio 4.
90 percent Radio 4. On the odd occasion where I fancy some tunes a local station called Q radio (formally citibeat). If I select radio 2 in my car a warning light appears on the dash
They still have radio?
Being able to choose a radio station to listen to is a luxury, you will be telling me next you have things like night heaters, cookers and fridges in your motor, but let’s not go into to the realms of fantasy, my first lorry with a radio fitted was a Scania Vabis back in about 69 it also had a heater fitted ( not a night heater ) now that was the height of luxury and the motor was quiet because of another luxury, insulation, the only thing to listen to was the Archers on BBC or if you where lucky radio Luxembourg, but if you had a good transistor radio you may be able to pick up radio Caroline then again to hear it above the roar of the engine gave you ear ache, blimey I’m feeling old writing that, keep safe…

Xhamster FM, more moaning than a Jeremy Vine phone in.
Start the day with Radio 4 for grown up news, then mostly LBC. Can’t miss the legend James O’Brien with the way he demolishes the hard of thinking bovine brexiteers on a daily basis. Brilliant stuff
Radio 1, the specialist early morning or late night only, though. Otherwise it’s my own music… or pleasant nothing.
On heavy rotation are:
Slipknot
Korn
Machine Head
Sybreed
Fallen To
Katatonia
Fear Factory
Tristania
In Flames
Limp Bizkit
Linkin Park
Twin Method
Dark Tranquility

What…!1…no Al bowley,or Ella Fitzgerald?
Slowly raising the white flag lately with radio 2,largely due to the abysmal playlists that even Ken Bruce has to push, these days a noxious plethora of moronic, bedwetter, snowflakey aural excrement day after day.I hop between 2 and 4 mostly, sidestepping the tedium of womans hour (yawn) and the Archers (puke) Those pompous plays they churn out leave me cold i must say,and the ‘news’ is pure Tavistock,common-purpose bilge to avoid at all costs i think we can agree.
Even radio 2’s news coverage is becoming ludicrous lately, there seems to be dozens of newscasters now when previously the amiable John Marsh and delightful Fran Godfrey were handling this job perfectly effectively but their brand of user friendly chatter must conflict with the ptb at propaganda central, far better i guess for them to have a wider pallette of frankly, bland, corporatey and bloodless voices better placed to manipulate the narratives usually followed with peurile, cutesey ‘feelgood’ tripe stories, for balance you understand.
It was always a given that that the late, great Wogans demise would bring to an end the essential warmth and friendliness of radio 2 but sweet jesus in my worst nightmares i could never envision just how spectacularly appalling the calibre of egomaniacs now dominating the station has foisted on us,they even as mentioned earlier wheeled in that ■■■■■■ Gary Davies a few weeks ago ffs.
I dusted down my DAB highway radio recently seeking some sanctuary. Not much has changed there too i notice, maconie and Radcliffe exempted, can’t say theres much to celebrate.Theres a berk there called Ravenscroft prattling on about,‘edgy’…‘emerging’…new bands, give me a break!.. When i hear them writing songs equivalent to-Pinball Wizard,Golden Brown,Landslide,Dreams,Stairway To Heaven,Like a Rolling Stone etc then i may just be convinced he may be onto something.
I spent 2 years driving nightshift listening to mainstream channels, then I found the local channels, I eventualy found different radio shows in different regions when I was passing thro (chat show type things) now just BBC 4 because i cant abide crap music when i am driving

Theyre my staple too. I
m with Manalishi on The Archers though: Barwick Green is my cue to hit the off or mute. Womans Hour lurches from excellent to abysmal. The afternoon plays can be excellent or awful. 11.30 and 18.30 slots are normally good, especially the ultra competitive game shows such as "Mornington Crescent"! But the don
t miss bits are Today and P.M. Eddie Mair can be soft and human dealing with the public, but unforgiving pursuing a politician. Humphries is himself, as ever, and I hope Sarah Montague does a better job Martha Kearney on W.at O. Shouldnt it be THE World at One? On Today I can still remember Brian Redhead
s interview with Nigel Lawson. Classic.
“On radio, his natural jauntiness, his inquisitiveness and self-confidence went down well with everyone except politicians, who thought they deserved more respect. He affronted scores of them but, characteristically, his two best-remembered on-air clashes occurred when ministers affronted him. After Nigel Lawson’s 1987 budget Redhead interviewed the Chancellor and challenged him over unemployment. Lawson dismissed the criticism as that of ‘a lifelong Labour supporter’. Redhead asked for a minute’s silence ‘while you compose an apology for daring to suggest you know how I exercise my vote, and I shall reflect on the death of your monetary policy’.” (Obituary in The Independant.)
The R4 weekend plays can be excellent again. An occasional bad`un but rare.

Maybe if radio 4 developed …lol…chanelling Melvynn Bragg there,a music show somewhere in the scheduling ,playing a more cerebral brand of music that would satisfy legions of us disenfranchised from the joke that radio 2 is becoming ( keep it up Purnell you ■■■■■ but find it hard to warm to radio 4s Oxbridge aesthetic.Listening to the Today programme i find is an exercise in pure masochism despite the fine qualities of Montague for one.
It’s a spiritually dessicated place radio 4 nowadays to these ears at least,Nick Robinsons voice seriously gives me the creeps and those overly educated ,so called comedians, best exemplified by that incredibly unfunny David Mitchell…they need throttling to be fair.

That already exists, it’s called 6 Music
Used to like Radio 4. There was a lot of good comedy and interesting programmes but can’t stand listening to Trump or Brexit all day. Not any particular fan of Trump, and although I voted Brexit I’m not obsessed with it, but just get tired of hearing about both topics like a broken down record player. Trump’s not even a politician in this country.

yep to a point but seems like a refuge for ageing groovers.“sorted fer ee’s an wizz” type of thing.even stu and mark,Mark anyway.are going a tad formlaic these days.Maconie is a class apart just the type who would inject some life into radio 4 if they ever considered a departure from their turgid and spiritually disembowelling programming schedules.Incidentally Maconies brilliance can be found in 3 books he’s authored.Just re read-Adventures on the High Teas which i would’nt hesitate to reccommend.
I plug my phone into the radio and listen to deezer.
I’ve been enjoying podcasts more and more. Some are from radio shows like the infinite monkey cage podcast and I enjoy Simon Mayo confessions.
I also enjoy the PC gamer podcast and west wing weekly.
