Just wanted to check back in on this thread and mention something else. In my area of Colchester I’m looking on Reed and searching for Class 1 / C+E jobs and literally every single vacancy, even ones that are still up after a month have “be one of the first ten applicants” which means that virtually every job advertisement receives less than 10 applications.
More likely to mean that there are so many applicants for each job that only the first 10 applying will be considered because they cannot be bothered to look at hundreds of them

its more likely just the hook the way the ad is written to ensnare the gullible into thinking its a newish desirable position so they have a steady stream of agency fodder for the books.
i.e. sorry now your sitting here then that jobs gone, but if you take these crap shifts you will be 1st in line for the next vacancy there.
i used to do similar when i had a garage selling cars.
id put up a ghost ad with a popular car at handy money then when they arrived to buy it “and it had just been sold”,i would steer them into something else.
i dont imagine if they advertised, heres a crappy minimum wage shift starting at silly o clock they would get many applicants.
its not as if an agency would lie and mislead now■■?

The “be one of the first ten applicants” text is part of the Reed website code, not the agencies advert.
I know what TruckerWannabe means when the job site says “Be one of the first 1 applicants” etc
Thing is, most people wont apply through that site - As you said, the average of a truck driver is 55 (I thought it was older) and many that age prefer to use the telephone than the scary computer - Some might even see the telephone as a bit off-putting and prefer to stroll in, in person
Have you tried applying for jobs through indeed, CV library etc? They aren’t the greatest and generally ask you to put contents of your CV into their little text boxes and arrange everything themselves, not presented how you made up your own CV etc. I’ve applied to 2 via those sites, the rest were via other methods.
