What is OCRS and why is it important to every LGV driver ?

That traffic light thing is all ■■■■■■■■.

The firm i worked for before the buyout was in the Green zone.
We should have all been in the nick.
When we found out, we couldn’t believe what we were hearing.

More tired now that we have to work legal though.
I used to sleep when i was tired, now i have to sleep when i’m told to.

I thought this topic might generate some interesting comments, and it has. :grimacing:

I also think that the VOSA .pdf document needs to be read with great care, because it uses the word “likelyhood” several times; however, as pointed out by real examples from several posters, the OCRS system is clearly far from perfect…

If we stick to the basics of OCRS, many of the things that will obviously draw VOSA’s attention and earn a PG9 are things that a driver can easily spot and rectify as shown by REEF’s post. The points I made in my O/P were that at least we have been told publicly about OCRS and the influence on their firm’s colour rating that LGV drivers can have, and for those points I still think that’s a credit to VOSA.

Although some might not share my view on this, my own gripe with VOSA is with the way that their front line troops have to adhere to the ‘guidance’ issued by their bosses. I guess those people may prefer to use their discetion, but might be prevented from doing so. IMHO, another point that we should consider is to take account of the way that VOSA’s employees probably daren’t be openly critical of their employer… much less put it in writing on here.

Whether we like OCRS or not, we can debate it, because at least we now know where the goalposts are.

Hi Dieseldave, yes let’s hope they can fine tune the system a little bit better. imho i’d have thought that the annual test pass rate would be enough to rate a company, but in saying that your going to make sure your vehicle is in top order for that one day and that’s not to say how about the other 360+ days is how vosa would probably argue?

Hi haulier, The annual test data is only one of the items in the mix.

A good first-time test pass rate will only help towards an overall OCRS score.

Now on the subject of ‘first-time’ M.O.T. test passes, I’ve noticed that very few vehicle owners simply don’t know their ‘first-time’ pass rate. Usually, these are the ones that say sometning like “we have to trust the garage, but it’s their responsibility.”

That kind of owner maybe has a breach of contract claim against the garage, but many of them can’t differentiate between that and the fact that the nominated TM is STILL responsible. They seem to forget the golden rule that they can contract out the work, but they cannot contract out of the responsibility.
