Somewhere in the north, maybe Glasgow, there is/was a bridge with a traveling platform, crossing a river. It may have been like a ski-lift cabin.
Ah… I see what you mean, that’s the “Tranporter Bridge”, designed for passengers it has a gondala. It’s undergone extensive work in recent years (ie millions of pounds) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tees_Transporter_Bridge

Is Tynside and Wear (see, I have been learning from Google) on the border with Scotland?
Nay! nay! and thrice nay!
Newcastle is about 65 miles from the border, Sunderland is about 75 miles - there’s the whole county of Northumberland between The Toon and the Border (Berwick upon Tweed)

As for the track (I’m sure you are aware) it’s what Newcastle Utd come out to at home games.
No, I wasn’t aware of that, I’m not a fan of football at all, and the last time I was at a Newcastle match was in the 1970’s when I was still at school.

Brilliant Ange, I haven’t seen that before and I am glad that S.D.U. started this thread because I have just spent the last three days binging on Auf Wiedersehen Pet.
Doing ‘nights out’ over the years, we were never able to see the complete series of our favorite shows, even the ‘out takes’ were great.
This one is a bit easier on the ear - Our Friends in the North. Great drama and featuring some fine actors who went on to become household names, including Daniel Craig - It’s James Bond as you’ve never seen him before youtube.com/watch?v=IfDs4EzOQGk

The Dorman Long “shed” was a feature of the drive from middlesbrough to Redcar since before I was born. Many of my uncles and neighbours used to work there.Who remembers the days when many factories had works buses and the bodies to fill them? And their own railway stations. How times change.
Anyway the famous Dorman long shed disappeared only a short time ago and the view has changed for ever.

Part of Dorman Long’s buildings received Grade II listed protection, which was summarily removed by Nadine Dorries for no other reason than it suited her bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tees-58637596

…and demolished, along with the rest of the steel works at South Bank and Redcar, including the last blast furnace on Teesside. Industrial vandalism, IMO.
