Hi Mike, Neah lad! I can’t take the credit for taking the photo, I only meant I can’t remember where I copied it from.
Would that be the same Mick Bailey that was with Haywards of Walsall in the '70s?

i quite enjoyed my time there too mike,i’d say the blokes i worked with were some of the best, and the money was good too, thik it was £92 a day for continental whether you did brum to felixstowe, or hook of holland to amsterdam, tip load and back over on the train double manned, that was a big day,but yu didnt mind as it evend itself out,
i did general mainly, then i went onto the brum to edinburgh night trunk,3 one week two the next,
when i left, they just got 10 dat xf95’s for a contract that didnt really come off as expected,i left soo after as i could see th doors closing eventually,
but as i said, good bunch of drivers, you would always get a hand if there was two of you,not like now where i’m working, while i’m sheeting flat trailers ,i get an audience at the ■■■ shed, then they all scarper,
wish i took some photos while i was at ponsonbys,
cheers

Blimey! he must have been just starting out back then, '73…ish I think it was. No wonder old Ray Mason used to give him some stick!!

hi tony

they did have some great work back in the day and some great drivers
early 90s was the prime time at djp but its nice to know that enjoyed your time there,
Nice to know your doing some sheeting, sheeted loads are a regular site in my yard too and anyone who knows me will tell you how fussy i am with it.
as you say they all hide when it comes to sheeting that tells me one thing THEY AINT NO GOOD AT IT

keep up the good work

cheers mate

Hi Mike,
I believe you might have one of my ex comrades working for you,if it was you who had the write in in the truck mag the other month,a mr mcabe?
yes i do plenty of sheeting, done 2 full loads today, luckily our stuff is quite bulky,so it uses the sheet,i hate it when its a low load with sheet hanghing to the floor, whether or not the my finished article is up to your standards,i don’t know lol

I remember seing a lot of Ponsonbys motors when I travelled with my uncle when he worked for Gordon Leslie, always got a flash and a wave from their drivers, there trucks were always smartly turned out if I remember rightly. I honestly thought MIke P’s trucks were the same company when I saw it in the magazine but then I hadn’t seen a Ponsonby truck for years before that.

Rich

Does anyone by chance have any pics of the P93 4x2 rigid they had?
If i remember it was Ponsonby colours on the cab and VAX coloured body, looked really smart.
I did the first service on it at Keltruck and the list of jobs it came in with was as long as your bloody arm!!!,took me a full weekend to do it all.
Used to work with a couple of ex Ponsonby drivers at Fullers Logistics, now there at Maritime at Hams Hall.
Ponsonbys got me into a load of trouble with Keltruck( long story but eneded with me leaving with no blemish on my record but must leave immediately lol!!,still it all worked out for me in the end!

I spoke to mick on friday night. He is still on for Hingley’s and was on a night out at Chesterfield. He has loads of photos as any one who knows Mick will tell you, He never goes any where without a camera. We need to get him to post them. By the way Micks son James, now drives for Mike Ponsonby who i believe is Des Ponsonbys grandson.

I havent got a photo of the Scania but I remember many a Sat mornings being in the back of that Scania loading it when he worked in the warehouse, im sure MIKE P will know who I am. It’d be nice to see a puic of it, also if anyone has a photo of the FL10 L7 DJP that’d be appreciated. It was the only one out the lot of them that had red writing on the air deflector.

Sorry i didnt explain myself very well, I used to go to work with my dad on a Saturday when he worked for Pondo’s, I spent most saturday mornings on the back of that scania loading it at about the age of 10 or 11. It was ok though, I used to get a sos and egg sandwich off des or Paul.
