What do you use?

I have noticed that I use a lot less fuel doing the same amount of miles if I use shell diesel instead of texaco, or murco.

raymundo:
Until someone can come up with conclusive proof not assumptions that supermarket fuel is inferior to the mainstream boys I shall continue using it with no apparent loss of power, less miles per tank and more repair bills etc etc etc.

just look on the pump for the r.o.n number octane rateing supermarkets 93.5 bp shell texaco 94 thats the difrence that why you get beter mpg out of berter octane rated fule work for silcoline year a go and the lab teck y bloke told me but he only worked there 25 years so what do.s he no

how old fella? the later ones have a knock sensor, so they’ll adjust themselves (within parameters)

That particular one was an 09.

i’m not clued up on fireblades, but a quick google says that would have one, so would take advantage of the better fuel

95 ron is the minimum in the uk

super unleaded is usually 97

shell v power and tesco momentum are 99

over here, theres a lot of people wont use asda for diesel as when the cops/customs find another fuel laundering plant and have to dispose of thousands of gallons of laundered fuel, then its presumed it goes into asda storage tanks before getting mixed and delivered with their normal fuel into the forecourts as theres just too much of it to destroy.they bin the sludge etc,but not the fuel. even asda staff wont use it.to be fair, theres a absolute abundance of people over here just run on Ribena,if not that, then its the kittylitter stuff.it seems to be ok as taxis arnt exactly shy in using it and they do 10 times the milage of joe bloggs. its not a great idea to use it if your running something critical like a dci engine as itl be wrecked in no time, but for anything else its ticketyboo. if you see someone in asda, then you can sssume there a stranger…you can sometimes hear a more crisper note to the engines top end depending on what fuel gets bunged in,but apart from that,so long as you don’t buy it from the Taliban carwash, then itl do no greif. the other alternative is to be buying fuel that’s brought in from eire by the back door, but basically whatever you buy from the scallywags is potluck though definitely no worse than asdas rubbish.its definitely poorer quality than from elsewhere.

both teso at Westbourne and tower park poole have had major problems, wrong fuel, dirty fuel and cleaning fluid left in tanks ?, Westbourne shut for some months, lots of coverage in the paper but no comment from Tesco other than investigations under way.

Not got a clue mate, but I’ve been going to sea for the best part o 50 years but that don’t make me an Admiral
I only voiced my opinion which is not necessarily fact, just what I have experienced driving a selection of motors.

The-Snowman:
Supermarkets use the sludge that the like of BP and Shell don’t. They ship it to Holland, turn it into fuel and bring it back. This is cheaper for them to make then it costs the big boys which is why it is cheaper. But using it constantly in your car is a bit like you trying to live on take aways every night. Bad for the system. With repairs etc it is false economy to use the supermarket stuff.

1 class bs, my vans have run on morrisons fuel for 300k and never missed a beat, my fords connects are doing 44/49mpg, and my transits high roof 140ps are doing 28mpg, my trucks only have esso as this is on route to where we delivery everyday = the wife gets shed loads of tesco points

Lucky you to get 44 to 49 out of a Connect, if I was lucky I only just crept up into the low 40s in mine and that was on like long runs from Aberdeen to Heathrow and back running light and driving it steady, mine was the bigger one of them with the 1.9 engine iirc.

I use Asda or Sainsburys’ petrol because they are cheap and I’m a cheapskate. Shell is ok, expensive, Jet is my go to though. Almost as cheap as the supermarkets but the fuel lasts longer. Morrisons fuel ■■■■■ though. More expensive and disappears faster cake at a weight watchers meeting.

The fuel is the same fuel , it comes out the ground from the same place is shipped & refined exactly the same , stored in the same way in the same storage tanks and pumped through the same fill points & lines to whatever tanker is parked for the loading at the gantry, whether that’s , tesco , Morrison , Texaco , shell or bp, the difference is the additive used by the fuel companies, that’s it. Even that doesn’t make much of a difference! I think when people talk about better mpg from to another , it comes down to how they drive after leaving that particular fourcourt…

Old car and use supermarket fuel. Misses has an Audi TT turbo and gains better mpg and cheaper fuel usage feeding it premium brand BP fuel compared with Tescos.

I work with a guy who inherited a Civic type R off his late Father. A minter that has been fettled it’s entire life.

He ran it for a year then the car developed technical issues. He took it to an independant Honda garage who took off some fuel management components and sent them to a fuel specialist.

The specialist challenged him as to whether he used bog standard supermarket fuel or branded fuel with the additives. He stated the former, the specialist stated categorically the wear was due to the lack of the additives and to not use supermarket fuel. I’ve no proof and don’t know what to believe it seems to be something in it.

ours is the 1.6, thrash it and it drops big time

Filled up with unleaded at Tesco a few minutes ago and it was 95 RON. Went in on fumes and managed to squeeze 58 litres into my supposedly 55 litre tank at 96.9ppl. Not to bad.

I fill up at morrisons.

The car runs fine on it and it is so cheap.

I take advantage of the morrisons fuel saver promotion, where if you buy £100 in gift cards, you get 10p off a litre. When I fill up I take 2 metal 20l cans with me to get the most out of my 100 litre allowance.

100 litres last me about 1.5 months and over this time we get 3v vouchers to convert to ASDA vouchers, amazon, b&q and halfords vouchers to use as I would cash. I filled up yesterday and paid 27.9ppl. Last month I paid about 8.9ppl

The above is worth bearing in mind if you are buying a tv or computer from pc world or amazon, as youare effectively saving 10% on any purchase

You wanna watch Yaself trubster, there’s a lot on here who don’t like rate cutters

Tesco cos its on the doorstep.
one day I was fuelling up my Total Oil livered truck
at the BP truck stop Rugby, when in came a Total tanker
to do a fuel delivery

The Total Tanker was more than likely delivering for Key Fuels or some such fuel card company.
