This week was even worse
Tuesday we got slammed with a record breaking snow storm. I set out from NYC to Waterbury VT with another Ben & Jerry load in heavy snow. The guy who left in front of me with the St Albans load called me to say he had stopped as it was too dangerous, I carried on and y usual 6 hour drive took 9. The other guy felt guilty when he heard that I had left and decided to move as I was now 2 hours ahead of him. The entire route, 330 miles to the drop and 100 to my house was on snow covered roads. I had to get back becuse the snow on the roof was over 2 feet deep and building up.
Weds morning I got up at 07.00 and climbed the ladder to the flat section of roof at the rear of our house and spent 4 hours up there shoveling the white crap off, the once the snow eased I drove in my car to my trailer to dig out access to it and at 8.30pm bobtailed down to get it and head to NYC, en-route my damm drivers side wiper arm broke and fell off so there I am driving blind for 80 miles on snow to the workshops in Albany to get it fixed, it took 10 mins to fix, then on to NYC, reload and off to Scranton (Home of the Ring Pop) to unload at 08.00am, empty in 30 mins and off to the TA in Columbia NJ for 10 hours off, a shower and a meal.
No snow friday and I reloaded to come home for mondays delivery.
Guess what ? … it’s saturday and we have another damm snow storm, expect another 10 inches tonight.
Thats not good Pat here it has been melting for the past few days.
I feel your pain Pat
I’ve had a pretty good run this winter, I got hammered out west at the start of it all, but since then all has been well, I’ve not been out east so have escaped all that crap you’ve been dealing with…until this week in Chicago, my quick 3 day trip has just finished 6 days later, even then I didn’t have too much problem driving, it was the closure of my delivery and reload places that ballsed it up for me, oh well, thanks to the wonders of the internet, I watched a load of TopGear and Gordon Ramsey throwing things at people and swearing a lot, he’d make a brilliant trucker
This past week was the worst since I can remember.
I was looking forward to an easing in the weather last weekend, I had to deliver sunday night at 11.00pm to Ben & Jerry’s in St Albans VT and sunday moring rain had been on the cards. By afternoon it had changed to expect 1-3 inches of snow, by 5.00pm it was expect 15 inches I decided to set out early and it took me 4 hours to travel 40 miles on route 22A, 5.5 hours to get from home to B&J when it ussually takes 2 hours. I unloaded, pulled out and got stuck in a foot of snow 100 feet from the bay. I waited a hour to be ploughed out, drove half a mile to a roundabout where I found 2 feet of snow and 4 trucks stuck fast, I got in the bunk and went to sleep, two hours later I was awakened by a Vermont plough truck driver telling me he was gonna plough me out, he sprayed salt round the tyres and ploughed me out to the main road. I drove a mile to the mobil station, drew the curtains and logged off with not enough time to get to NYC.
I woke up at 11.00aam to the sound of more plough trucks and peeked out, it was a full scale blizzard like I had never seen and I then found my wipers had failed, got out to try and free them when tow truck arrived “Can I tow you out ?” asked the guy.
“No thanks, I’ll manage” I couldn’t go anywhere if they did tow me cause I was still on a break and the roads were closed. I called the company and then found I was stuck again, they sent a bloke to fix the wipers which it turned out was just a fuse … $100.00 to fix a fuse Then the tow truck arrived and it was the same bloke who tried to rip me off earlier with his plough truck mate.
I did eventually get free and underway
it was the worst storm in Vermont history.

F@@K ME GENTLY, $100 for a fuse ,which any self respecting driver should be able to change themselves. You’d last all of a week up here !!
Brentanna:
Pat thats odd I had heaters never had to run the rig more than a few minutes first think in the morn before starting out biggest problem was getting moving with the [zb] tyres I had a small mound of dirt to go up would have me spinning but the tyres were good 1/16th wear left.
Fixed that.

I’m not daft LOL … I didnt have a pare and he had one on him, it was a case of either that or go without wipers.
You might be on here in a few months complaining about the heatwaves LOL.
Our cousin in Yonkers is heading to Florida, and giving up his apt on Riverdale.

I’d love to move down to Florida mate but then in summer it gets too hot. I once spent all weekend sitting waiting to load at a plant growers in Homestead FL (any further south and you are in the sea or on the Keys) My A/C was not working … NOT pleasant

I remember seeing motel after motel in Sarasota advertising rooms for £18 per night a couple years back (with A/C).
£18 per night a couple years back (with A/C).
Something tells me that £18 is not standard fair in Florida.

Pont 1 … as at the time I was self employed and the brokers who still owe me for half that load were very tight with com cheques before I actually got the load on and the nearest motel was in fact $85.50 a night.
